The college is working with Nationsbank issue $10 million worth of tax-free bonds. In addition, the development office is making plans to conduct an $18 million fundraising campaign. Dr. Young said the remainder of the funds will come from revenue increases. He went on to say that part of the increases will probably come in the form of a SlOO tuition increase. Final decisions on tuition increases will be made by the Board of Trustees during their meeting in March. He went on to say that low interest rates helped make the facilities expansion project affordable. The $6 million campus center will be a 70,000 square foot facility. It will serve as the central location for the college's student life programs. In addition, the college bookstore, student mail services, the campus media organizations and multi-purpose areas capable of handling gatherings of up to 500 people will also be located in the facility. The $3 million physical education and fitness center will be 60,000 square feet. It will be adjoining Jordan Gymnasium and Beck Pool. In addition, the Board of Trustees approved a major renovation project for Alumni Gymnasium. This project includes the installation of air conditioning, contour seats, a new floor and acoustic ceiling tile. The project will also create a new lobby, a hospitality and archive room and additional office space for coaches. The cost of the renovation is $3 million. Young said that the renovation work should be complete by the start of the 1992-93 basketball season. A grassed pedestrian walkway will extend from the front of the student center lo Haggard Avenue. The mall will be crossed by a series of walkways similar to those on the south side of campus. During the summer of 1993, approximately 300 new parking spaces will be created of Power Line Road. They will replace the spaces displaced by the pedestrian mall. The cost of this project is $1 million. Young said the gymnasium renovation will begin in early part of the summer while the campus center project will begin in late summer.
