5) L. Fletcher Prouty, a
former aide to the Joint Chiefs of
Staff and an advisor to the movie
JFK, suggests that there wasn't
enough secret service in the area.
Also while in New Zealand,
Prouty read in a newspaper about
the suspect, Oswald, four hours
prior to his arrest. Was this true
and if so, how would the paper
know about Oswald before his
arrest?
It is important for people to
question what really happened in
Dallas, to not just believe one
source but to search and ask
questions. Oliver Stone and Jim
Garrison are not the authority by
any means. However, they have
raised awareness which is very
important.
I hope that many of my
questions will be considered and
that the students here at Elon will
also bring their thoughts and
feelings to the discussion.
I hope that Oliver Slone is
satisfied with the interest that he
developed in young adults such as
myself.
If that was his goal, he has
succeeded.

Preyer: I don't think the
lone nut killer fits the pattern of
wanting publicity for it.
Pendulum: If your
committee found that Oswald was
not acting alone, how do you still
support a lone nut theory?
Preyer: There could be
another lone nut, too. You don't
have to have a conspiracy with the
Mafia or the FBI or somebody.
George Blakey [also on the
Committee] incidentally thinks
that the assassination was inspired
by the mafia. Not organized crime
as a group, but individual mafia
members operating out of Reno.
And there's a lot of strange
evidence linking Jack Ruby to
mafia types.
One problem I have with it is
the time frame when the parade
route was actually known to the
public down in Dallas, because it
was changed at a late date. I think
it's only about 48 hours before the
trip that the parade route was
changed. If it was a short interval,
it seems a little hard to believe
that the mafia could've recruited a
guy like Oswald who just
happened to have a job in the city
on the parade route there.
I think those are the two
options that seem to be left open.
One is the mafia or two, it could
be a double lone assassin.
Pendulum: What is your
goal and message in addressing
college students?
Preyer: I want to just
explain the facts that our
committee developed in this case.
It's alarming to me that in politics
you say something because that’s
what people want to hear, but you
don't back it up with any kind of
facts. When you get into the
details of it, you find that what’s
up front is not what's really
behind it
I don’t know why Americans
are great conspiracy believers.
You always believe there's some
small power group pulling stings
that the rest of us don't know
about. It's just not unie.

occurred. Johnson believes that
there was more than one
conspiracy involving government
agencies in covering up some of
the important facts surrounding
the assassination. Most
importantly, these agencies wanted
to cover up their connection with
Oswald.

sealed documents pertaining to the
assassination. If the documents are
released early, Johnson believes
that this will have very little affect
on the possibility of discovering
the truth behind the conspiracy.
"There are not going to be
any great revelations when all this
information is released," Johnson
said. "It's as if someone has
