A program focusing on date rape will be held Thursday Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. in West Lounge. The program is sponsored by the West Area Staff. ■ The Financial Aid office will be providing loan counseling Oct. 7 and 8, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Powell 101. ■ The new sorority, Alpha Xi Delta, is holding an interest meeting tonight at 6 p.m. in the Isabella Cannon Room. ■ The Alamance Coalition Against Drug Abuse will be on campus Thursday, October 1, during College Coffee to talk about the Coupon Stickers for Drug Free Kids program. THE PAST Three Years Ago: The Campus Shop began construction on the old Tel- Com office to move textbook sales from the Campus Shop in October, 1989. Fourteen Years Ago: Pop music group Hall & Oates performed at Elon on Sunday, October 1,1978. ; Fifteen Years Ago: WSOE : went on the air for the first time September 29, 1977. The ! station began following a jazz, classical, and popular music format Sixteen Years Ago: Brown and Co. opened its doors for the first time during the first week of October, 1976. According to Mike Mooney, Student Government Association president, 48 people registered to vote during the half-hour College Coffee. On the same day, 560 students turned out to elect their freshman, sophomore and junior officers and senators. In other business: ■ SGA President Mike Mooney proposed that the organization make a donation to the Alamancc Coalition Against Drug Abuse in Tess Elliott’s name. Elliott was Miss North Carolina USA and was also the spokesperson for ACADA and the Coupon Stickers For Drug Free Kids program the SGA recently adopted. Elliott died Sept. 20 in a skydiving accident when she became entangled in the ropes of her parachute and plunged into a group of trees. Roommates assaulted near Hook DeeDee Carowan The Pendulum The weekend turned sour for two Elon roommates who were assaulted by several Greensboro College students Saturday night, according to Elon College Police. Sophomores Brady Yntema and Brandon Darrow of Jordan Center were assaulted on the sidewalk in front of Hook dormitory by several men whom they did not know, the Elon College Police report said. Both Elon students were transported to Alamancc Memorial Hospital where they received stitches, the report said. Campus Security was notified of the incident on Saturday night and a security officer u^ackcd down the alleged assailants and set up interviews with them at Sec Assault, Page 4 New sorority offers alternatives Katie Brock The Pendulum Alpha Xi Delta, a national social sorority, will bring a new chapter to Elon College this week. AHA will begin its rush process Wednesday evening with an interest party. Bids will be given out Saturday morning. Founded at Lombard College in Galesburg, Illinois, AEA’s primary philanthropy is the American Lung Association. Each collegiate and alumni chapter also supports respiratory health related causes at the local level. Their colors arc double blue and gold, their mascot is the teddy bear, and their flower is the pink rose. ASA has over 110 chapters across the nation. There are four . See Sorority, Page 4
