Senior Lynne Lailas returned
to the scene of the crime on
Sunday night, trying to overcome
her fears from one terrifying trip
to the grocery store.
Lailas had strolled into the
Winn Dixie Thursday afternoon
much like she does every other
day, keys in one hand, checkbook
in the other. She headed for the
freezer case for frozen yogurt
“I’d only been in there five
minutes, trying to make a
decision between Pecan Praline
and Cookies ‘n’ Cream when
‘boom,’” Lailas said.
Like a scene from a TV
movie, quiet suburban Burlington
became a battlefield on Thursday
when a Winn Dixie employee
entered the crowded local grocery
store and started shooting.
Lailas heard three gunshots

The man who captained the
only gold medal-winning U.S.
men’s gymnastics team in
Olympic history will deliver the
commencement address on
Saturday, May 22.
A gold medalist from the
1984 Olympics in Los Angeles,
Peter Vidmar has been selected to
share his experiences and
successes with the senior class.
The selection process began
with the senior class advisory
committee, AIR (Alumni in
Residence), which conducted a
survey of seniors to see what
criteria they were looking for in a
commencement speaker.
The three major requests by
the senior class were for name
recognition, a non-journalist, and
for the speech content to be
motivational.

Elon’s chapter of Pi Kappa
Phi fraternity has lost not only
their name, but the very shirts off
their backs.
The fraternity’s nationals
cracked down on the chapter on
Tuesday, March 30 for their lack
of compliance to the rechartering
standards and released the brothers
from membership in the
organization.
“We’re still a brotherhood,”
said Pi Kap’s InterFraternity
Council representative Phil
Bianco. “The only thing they
took from us is our letters.”
