Here’s an official hitting of the highlights that touched the Jives of Elon students this year of 1992-93. ■ September: Students return to a campus under construction. A county-wide mandatory recycling program is implemented. Presidential hopeful Bill Clinton makes his first campaign stop in the sia^e in Greensboro. President Bush addresses local businessmen in Greensboro. Local residents protest the construction of the Cook Road bypass. Native American Doris Leader Charge speaks out at fall convocation. ■ October: Clinton, Gore and their wives visit the Elon ■ November AOPi takes Homecoming. campus on a bus tour across the southeast. Bush brings his whistle-stop train campaign through Elon on his way to Burlington. Alpha Xi Delta sorority begins colonizing. ■ November: Home coming is set to a controversial Disney theme and boasts the first male candidate for “queen.” Columnist Jack Duval proposes mass annihilation of Elon’s squirrel population. Habitat foT* Humanity sponsors a sleep-out by Fonville Fountain during their land drive. Producer of The Silence of the Lambs Kenneth Utt is presented with a distinguished alumnus award. ■ February: Elon mourns the death of freshman Danie Rokely in a memorial service. The plus-minus grading system is approved. ■ March: Dirt flew at the groundbreaking for the new campus center. The Safe Rides program gets underway, inspired by the death of Chad Macy. ■ April: A local Winn Dixie employee is killed after opening fire in the groccry store, killing a co-worker and wounding two others. Some 600 men and women “took back the night” to protest violence against women. UNC-Chapel Hill wins the NCAA basketball championship. The controversial 4.0 hour class schedule is approved.
