Theatre at 8 p.m.

announced.
■ Sixteen Years
Ago: SGA sponsored their
second annual concert with the
musical band and recording
artists The Outlaws. The
band Mama's Pride opened the
concert.

basketball

In a press confcrence held
last Thursday, Elon College
announced that Mark Simons
will be the new head coach of the
men's basketball team.
Simons, former head coach
at Georgia College, was singled
out of approximately 175
applicants for the position.
"I am excitcd about Elon. It
is a place I've wanted to coach
now for about seven years. As-a
matter of fact, it has been exactly
seven years," Simons said.
Simons spent the past two
years at Georgia College, where
he compiled a 15-13 record his
last season. It was an
improvement from the 9-20
season he had his first year at
GC.
Prior to his two years at
Georgia College, Simons spent
five years at St. Andrews College
in Laurinburg, N.C. While ai

Festival celebrates culture

An international dinner
marked the mid-point of Anril
26-29, the week slated as the
International spring Festival
This was the first year that this
event has been held at Elon
“There was a real mixture of
things that went on this week ”

“There were songs sung in
French, Italian poetry that was
recited and Professor Rodriguez
even taught a song in Spanish,”
Romer said.
Events were held all week
long in order to raise awareness
of the international students that
attend Elon and to promote both
foreign language study and travel
abroad programs.
A movie called Foreign
Languages and Careers was
shown throughout the week on
the Elon Channel and the
International Festival hosted
College Q)ffej? on .Thursday.
'There were tables set up by
various people in the college
concerning Elon’s international
curriculum and study abroad
opportunities,” Romer said.
“Some events were more
successful than others,” said

“The dinner was a definite
success. There were so many
people at the dinner that wc had
to turn them away because it was
by reservation only," Mansilla
said.

Graduating seniors who are
shopping the job market are
finding the shelves empty.
The job search for graduating
seniors continues to be as much
of a problem as it has been for
the past few years.
“One of the major problems
we are encountering is the
downsizing of business and
industries throughout the United
States,” said Ben Utley,
Coordinator of Career Planning
and Placement Services.
Out of approximately 613
graduates for the 1992 school
year, 571 responded lo a job
