See page 13 9 « Elon names basketball coach Erick Gill The Pendulum In a press confcrence held last Thursday, Elon College announced that Mark Simons will be the new head coach of the men's basketball team. Simons, former head coach at Georgia College, was singled out of approximately 175 applicants for the position. "I am excitcd about Elon. It is a place I've wanted to coach now for about seven years. As-a matter of fact, it has been exactly seven years," Simons said. Simons spent the past two years at Georgia College, where he compiled a 15-13 record his last season. It was an improvement from the 9-20 season he had his first year at GC. Prior to his two years at Georgia College, Simons spent five years at St. Andrews College in Laurinburg, N.C. Events were held all week long in order to raise awareness of the international students that attend Elon and to promote both foreign language study and travel abroad programs. A movie called Foreign Languages and Careers was shown throughout the week on the Elon Channel and the International Festival hosted College Q)ffej? on .Thursday. 'There were tables set up by various people in the college concerning Elon’s international curriculum and study abroad opportunities,” Romer said. “Some events were more successful than others,” said Assistant Dir ector of International Affairs Isabella Mansilla. “The dinner was a definite success. There were so many people at the dinner that wc had to turn them away because it was by reservation only," Mansilla said. The job search for graduating seniors continues to be as much of a problem as it has been for the past few years. “One of the major problems we are encountering is the downsizing of business and industries throughout the United States,” said Ben Utley, Coordinator of Career Planning and Placement Services.
