\K Sports September 23, 1993 Page 9 Men’s soccer breaks even Erick Gill Managing Editor Elon broke even last week with one win, one loss and one tie for the men’s soccer team. The Christians, lead by head coach Rob Brewer, are 3-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the South Atlantic Conference. Elon took to the road on Sept. 14 to be beaten 3-1 by Greensboro College. Their first conference win came Sept. 18 at Mars Hill College. Elon shut out the Lions 2-0 with goals from David Myers and Jason Knight. : After two 15 minute ! overtime periods on Sept. 19, i Elon settled for a 1-1 tie at Bakatasias Field against High j Point University. I “We missed some really j good opportunities, then again so did they,” Myers said. “We definitely were the better team though.” Elon’s goal against High Point came from Myers. Myers seems to be Elon’s go to man, with eight goals so far this season. “It’s been an up and down season so far,” Myers said. “The games we lost, we should have won.” Key defensive players are keeper Drew Hook, and transfer students Tony Lagana and Sean Britton. Lagana scored Elon’s only goal against their lost to Greensboro with only two minutes left in the game. Looking ahead into the season, Catawba looks to be Elon’s biggest obstacle in the way of winning a SAC Championship. “We should do well this year. I would like to end my career winning the conference championship,” Myers said. Elon will be hosting Lenior- Rhyne Sept. 25 at home on Bakatasias Field at 3 p.m. ■PESSP '■mm 1 Erick Gill/ The Pendulum At home Ek)n bumps out Queens College to take the win. At the half Elon was down 4-0, but made a comeback with the help of Amy Williamson and Currin. Currin hit two goals in the second half, less than 10 minutes apart from each other. In the conference opener versus Mars Hill that toughness did pay off. Elon crushed Mars Hill. 5-0. The Lady Christian’s offense bombarded the Lions with 63 shots compared to their two. Goals against the Lady Lions came from Williamson, Eaton, Currin, Jill McFarland and Stephanie Shafer. Every week, I will give you my keen insight into the NFL. I’m not going to make predictions on “gimme” games; only a few top of the liners. Now, lean back, get comfortable, and witness history: Miami at Buffalo For those of you who were putting Miami at the top of the AFC, watch closely. You’ll see why Buffalo has won it three straight years. Buffalo will crush the Dolphins. Green Bay at Minnesota Minnesota has no offensive line. Reggie White has no fear. Jim McMahon has no chance. The Pack will win decidedly in a prep game for next week’s Big D clash.. Phoenix at Detroit Phoenix has an extremely talented Garrison Hearst. Detroit has some guy named Barry. As long as Barry doesn’t have to catch one across the middle against Chuck Cecil, the edge and the game goes to the Lions. A restored roar? We shall see as the season wears on. San Francisco at New Orleans There is a power shift in the NFC West, and this game will prove it. New Orleans will win the game, and a big bunch of bandwagon fans won’t be far behind. As a franchise, San Fran’s not dead, but the scent of brimstone has been detected at Candlestick. Then again, that odor could be for the Giants, but that’s a different story. PION’S POWER RATINGS 1.
