Op-Ed April 28,1994 3 Letters To The Editor SGA executive responds to previous editorial ’'■'/A To the Editor: 1 am writing this letter to respond to Mr. Miller’s editorial about SGA, and his attack on my character. According to your article in last week’s Pendulum you claim that I have the power to terminate a bill before it reaches the senate floor. Not All I asked from the senate •s that I receive a copy of a bill one week before it is to come up o** the floor. This is in accordance to our By-Laws that requires a bill to be sent to committee. During this time it 'vill give myself and the ***embers of the judicial committee time to review it and to make sure it is in proper format to be deliberated on. Secondly I wrote the meeting procedure because in SGA’s past Robert’s Rules of Order has been •Manipulated by the few senators "'ho actually know it inside Md Out. We are just students who are trying to make life just a little bit nicer for our fellow students. Now about your comparison of former Vice-President Quayle and me. First I must tell you that you lost all professionalism when you auacked me personally. It was a juvenile attempt to try and make me look bad to the student body. In fact you helped me very much. I would like to thank you Mr. Miller for enticing the student body to get involved in talking about S.G.A. As soon as your article was read, my weekend was full of students telling me that your article was nothing but., well I can’t print that Your attempt to desut)y my reputation and character only enhanced it People who I did not even know before your article appeared, now have come up to me to tell me that I have all of their support. So Mr. Miller your strange views on life here at Elon are laughed at by the people that you think you are informing. If I were you I would take a little more time in looking over my personal views, and even more time before I would consider printing them. One other thing, my last name is spelled E-K-U- L-O-N-A. I would also like to take this time to thank my brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi. You all have stood behind me all year and when I was feeling down. You all found the Phi Nu Pi and picked my spirits up. I love you all and I’m going to miss you, Phi-Nupe, Bernard, Rodney, Elliott, Mike, Brandon and Corey. Things at Elon that show lack of respect for students To the Editor: Elon is a good school but there are a few things about campus life that really get to you after a while. First of all, the library hours have got to change on the weekends. This is the only school I know of where the library closes at 6:00pm on Friday and a S:00 pm on Saturday. There is always a crowd waiting outside to l)e let in when the doors finally open at 2:00pm on Sunday. I don’t know about you but for me, entire class projects or reports have often had to be postponed until the weekend, especially when you’re taking 18 or 20 hours. In most dorms, you can forget about doing any serious studying on the weekends. I can’t figure out the reason for the stfange hours. It wouldn’t cost much, not that Elon’s short on money, to keep the library open just a few hours later on Saturday and open a few hours earlier on Sunday. I wonder about the seriousness of the academic environment here on campus and whether the administration has its priorities straight. On a different note, Mcewen and Harden dining halls need to clean up their acts a liule. I 5 )L it I J II V ; K « n IJ ' realize that it’s hard to work on a limited budget, and the food is all-right some of the time. However, early morning breakfast is often very disappointing. There is often no coffee or orange-juice and the bacon and waffles are usually cold. Weekend brunches are no picnic either. What’s the deal with the Elon ^Information Channel? It’s frequently wrong about what the dining halls are serving and is hardly ever right about what's coming on television. How hard could it possibly be to keep this thing up to date? I don’t mean to complain so much but the administration is oblivious to some of our basic needs and appears to be frivolous with its funds. If it would quit pouring chemicals onto the grass and stop replacing every damn shrub on the campus for no other apparent reason other than to attract the precious perspective student to our lovely campus, maybe it would see some of the real problems concerning the people who are actually enrolled here. I would think twice about the way some of my money is being spent here, remember the Wilburn incident, before I payed another dollar to the school, especially with the large tuition increase next year. Joey Dillard Hockey apparently beyond Pion's intellectual abilities To the Editor: I don’t know which is more pathetic someone who would sit with a six-pack and watch the NFL draft or a supposed sports writer who gets his opinion of Hockey from a Walt Disney movie. By the way, I can see how exciting any sport would be if you knew when someone was going to score. That would be so much better than a short-handed overtime win. From one of the many Hockey fans at Elon, Kevin DeLong Corrections: The Pendulum strives to report the news accurately and will correct errors that come to its {Mention. Barb Hanke's title is director of Student Activities. The Pendulum incorrectly stated her tide in last week's viewpoint.
