Police confiscate marijuana;
two Elon students arrested

Two Elon students were
charged with felonious possession
of marijuana on campus last Sun
day, said Elon College Police De
tective Mike Woznick.
Robert Carl Mortland, 19, of
2430 N. Daisey Drive, Jamison,
Pa., and Adam David McCutcheon,
19, of 391 Central Ave., Newark.
Ohio were charged with a felony
possession of marijuana, posses
sion with the intent to sell and de
liver, manufacturing marijuana,
maintaining a dwelling and con
spiracy to manufacture marijuana.
Students cast ballots in SGA elections

Elections for SGA executive
officers and senators were held
Tuesday and Wednesday from 10
a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Moseley Cen
ter.
As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, 558 stu
dents had voted, said Sen. Jeff
Swain. Because The Pendulum is
pnnted on Wednesday, the election
results could not be published

Presidential ca'ndidate charged with DWI

dential candidate, was arrested for
driving while impaired April 13.
"I was elected to drive because
I was the soberest one," Sparks
said.
Sparks said she had “no more
than five” drinks between 9 p.m.
and midnight on April 13.
About 2 a.m.. Sparks was
pulled over on Cook Road in
Gibsonville by Elon College Po
lice Officer John V i llanova for mak-
ing a wide-nght turn.
“I don’t know who doesn’t
make a wide turn onto that road,"
Sparks said.
According to Mothers Against
Drunk Dnving. making a wide turn
is one way to spot a drunk dnver.
Sparks said the officer told her
the car smelled of alcohol and to
get out of the car. "We had been to
the bar so that’s why we smelled."
She said she submitted to so
briety tests and a breathalyzer "I
blew a .08 and so the officer had no
choice but to take me in. 1 couldn’t
really do anything at that point and

Student found guilty of assault on a female

A former basketball player,
who was charged with assault on a
female in March, was found guilty
and given a45-day suspended sen
tence and 18 months probation,
according to Alamance County
District Court records.

S. Mebane Sl guilty of the misde
meanor crime last Friday in
Alamance County District Court.
The 23-year-old communica
tions major was arrested March 21.
According to the warrant for
Bumper's arrest, he struck the vic
tim in the face with his fist and
threatened her life.
The Pendulum is withholding
the victim’s name at her request.
She said the two did know each
other and had dated in the past.
Bumper is required to enroll in
the Alternatives to Domestic Vio
lence Program within 30 day* and
will be forced to pay any unin
sured medical expenses from the
incident, according to court docu
ments.
Bumper, who transferred
from Western Carolina Univer
sity, played basketball at Elon
College during the 1993-94 sea
son. He didn’t play last season.
