Folk Artist Brings Unique Sound To Elon

On Tues., Sept. 24, at 8:00
p.m. in McCrary Theatre, Sally
Rogers will be preforming her tra
ditional, contempory and original
ballads.
Rogers, wife and mother has
released 13 albums. Such albums
as her second, Circle of the Sun,
recieved the Best Folk Album of
1982 award from the National
Association of Independent Record
Distributors. ^ .
One of her most recent al
bums which is lullabys for infants
and toddlers, At Quiet O’Clocks
also won theNAIRD award among
many others. ' "
Throughout her concerts not
only does she have a voice that has
been regarded as “remarkable” to
“mesmerizing" by reveiwers, but
she also accompanies herself on
guitar and Appalachian duclimer.
Rogers does nearly all of her own
original ballads, but she also in
cludes many of which are consid
ered classics of the folk and popu
lar genre.
Rogers has won numerous
other awards. Ttiese include the
NAIRD award for What Cm One
Person Do?
Her album Closing the Dis
tance was voted throughout many
country stations as among the 10
most popular albums of the year.
Her album Peace by Peace
recieved wide critical and popular
acclaim.
Not only is Rogers gaining
popularity with album releases but
in 1994 her first childrens book,
“Over in the Endangered
Meadow,” was to be published by
E.P. Dutton of New York.
Rogers musical skills will be
sure to provide great entertainment

Elon Students Showcse
Their Talents In Collage
Erik Akelaitis
The Department of Performing
Arts will present a Collage on Sept.
27 and Sept. 28 in Yeager Recital
Hall.
The collage is directed by
Catherine McNeela and will feature
music and music theatre majors.
Students will perform songs
from Broadway shows as well as
scenes from contemporary and clas
sic theatre.
The performance will feature
the Elon Saxophone Quartet, which
will perform numbers by George
Gershwin.
In addition, students will per
form songs from West Side Story,
Big River, The Best Little
Whorehouse In Texas, The Apple
Tree and many other Broadway
musicals.
There will be a special per
formance by a 9-year-old future
music theatre major, Jordan
Ashley Baker, who is the daugh
ter of Elon’s athletic U"ainer, Marty
Baker.
“The collage promises to be
a fun, snappy show. It has been a
sold out event every year and I
know this year won’t be any dif
ferent.” McNeela said.
The collage will take place
next Friday at 7 p.m. and 8:15
p.m. and on Saturday at 7 p.m. in
Yeager Recital Hall.
