To The Editor Student Concerned With Spectrum To the Editor: I am writing this letter to voice my strong opposition towards the creation of SPECTRUM- the new gay and lesbian society on campus. I think it would be a poor choice on the part the SGA to provide fund ing for such an organization and even worse for Elon College - an institution founded on Christian beliefs - to recognize it as a valid student club. I believe in the Con stitution and the rights of people to freely assembe without fear of per secution. Should I, however, be obligated to pay for it with my SGA dues or have flyers advertising it shoved in my face all over campus? Absolutely not! This college is not as liberal as many in the political science department, administration, or SGA would have us believe. Have we become so politically cor rect that we have forgotten the dif ference between right and wrong? Homosexuality and lesbianism is a sin. I have no tolerance for the people who practice or condone this way of life and neither should the college or my student govern ment association. Brandon W. Scruggs Prisoner Seeking Correspondence To the Editor: I am a prisoner on Death Row at the Arizona State Prison and was wondering if you could assist me and place this letter in your campus newspaper. I am seeking correspondence. I’m not looking for anyone particu lar to write to, just anyone that would be interested. I don’t get much mail and the mail I do get is usually from the courts and gener ally bad news, so it’s not just like not getting any mail at all, or worse than not getting any depending on how you look at things. Anyway, if you could run this with the letters to the editor for me I would really appreciate it; MALE PRISONER ON DEATH ROW AT THE ARI ZONA STATE PRISON WOULD LIKE MAIL FROM ANYONE THAT WOULD LIKE TO WRITE. I AM WITHOUT FAMILY AND HAVE BEEN IN THIS CELL FOR ALMOST A DOZEN YEARS ALREADY. I WOULD LIKE CORRESPONDENCE FROM ANYONE WHO HAS THE TIME TO WRITE LETTERS AND WOULD ENJOY RECEIVING LETTERS FROM ME IN RE TURN. THIS LIFE HAS BEEN A HARD AND LONELY ONE AND I WOULD BE GRATEFUL FOR ANY COMPANY ANYONE WOULD CARE TO GIVE. I WILL ANSWER ALL LET TERS WRITTEN TO ME AND TO THOSE WHO DO WRITE, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO TALK ABOUT OR ASK WHATEVER YOU ARE CURIOUS ABOUT. BEING A CONDEMNED PRISONER, I AM KEPT STRICTLY ISOLATED AND LOCKED IN MY CELL. I AM NOT ALLOWED TO WORK TO GET MONEY FOR STAMPS, SO IF YOU COULD SEND SOME IT WOULD BE A BIG HELP TO ME. ANYONE INTERESTED PLEASE WRITE: MICHAEL CORRELL #51493, ARIZONA STATE PRISON, P.O. BOX 8600, FLORENCE, ARIZONA 85232. Again, I would like to thank you for running this as for me. I really do appreciate any help you can give me oa this matter. Life on Death Row can get pretty lonely and the company through some correspondence could go along way to change a lot of that. Michael Correll Pendulum GJrammar Offends Students To the Editor: I feel the need to inform you about your unsuccessful attempt at editing this paper. We find it quiet offensive that you put so little time and effort into correcting the mis takes, in this paper. In the September 12th issue of the Pendulum, we found a number of errors. For example on page five “Insolate” is spelled incorrectly. Did you even take the time to look at this article? The misspelling prac tically jumps out at you. Another blatant mistake by your editorial staff is the incorrect usage of an apostrophe on page four. It should be “Students Respond to Young Miss Duffy.” Also in that article there are two pronoun-antecedent agreement errors. I won’t even be gin to mention the misuse of com mas. We’ll let you figure them out on your own if you can! This is not meant to be a hate ful letter, we just want to inform you of ways you could improve your paper. One more thing: On page fifteen spell check would have once again found an error. You misspelled the most frequently used word in the English Language; “The.” Take your time while read ing the articles and these mindless mistakes will not happen, or at least they will not be so blatantly obvi ous. ,Hunter J. Reed Casey Tanner The Pendulum is not responsible for any gramiBatical errors in the Letters ^ section.
