The only memory Robert Lanham and Shane McDermott have of Jan. 25 was sitting around their apartment with friends drink ing beer. Later that night, the two were in a near fatal automobile accident in Gibsonville. According to a police report, the 1990 Mazda, driven by McDermott, was traveling west on Burlington Street shortly before 11 a.m. The vehicle slid sideways for about 200 feet and struck a utility pole at the intersection of Chase Street. “I can’t explain why we did it. We screwed up,” Lanham said of the accident. “We didn’t know what we were doing and here we are nine months later trying to recover.” see SURVEY, paige 6 ■» V*' I ‘ y -Macon mim
