We collected 216 units of blood which put us over our goal of 200! I greatly appreciate everyone whose enthusiasm helped keep me going throughout the long day and the long days leading up to the “The Big Day!” Each and every one of the volunteers deserves recogni tion, but the list is just too long to publish. ♦♦Everyone who mentioned the drive to a friend and encour aged them to give — thank you. **A11 of you who gave blood on Thursday, thank you on behalf of the four lives you saved. **To all of the EV! Office staff who answered phones and made appointments, you’re great! **To the people who sat at the table in Moseley to flag down ev eryone who passed — terrific job! **And to Julie Elmore who helped me see that light at the end of the tunnel—a HUGE THANKS! The Blood Drive would not have been so successful without your help and dedication. Last, but not least, thank you to my co-coordinator, Josie Mosmiller. On this our second drive together, we worked super hard to not just reach our goal, but break it! So, Josie, thanks for col- Eton Athletics Not Receiving Support To the Editor: I am a sophomore at Elon Col lege and a member of the men’s basketball team. It has come to my attention, through my experiences last year, as well as those so far this year, that the athletic teams at this institution have not been receiving the support from the students and faculty at Elon, as well as the com munity in which Elon is located, that we well deserve. Elon College has a rich tradition in athletics that includes several national champi onships in football, golf and base ball, highlighted with numerous All-American superstars that will remain immortal because of their performances on their selected field of competition. The spirit of com petition is one that lives today in each Elon College athlete. It is because of this heritage as well as the abilities of each of Elon’s coaches and athletes that Elon College’s athletics department has been promoted from a NCAA Di vision II participant to a NCAA Division I contender. To keep up with such progresses in inter-colle giate varsity athletics, each of Elon’s athletics team’s coaches have searched the nation each year oring all day and everything else you did to get this event off the ground! Here’s to a great drive in the Spring everyone! Amy J. Jumba To the editor: Recently a student’s photog raphy work was displayed in the Fine Arts building. These photos, which were of good taste, were disgraced by someone with selfish intents. The mangier of the art either stole the piece for some kind of personal gain, or destroyed it to satisfy his or her sadistic personal ity. Since the art student literally owned the photos, this is definitely a case of destruction of private property. The violation that the student suffered was, justifiably, taken very seriously. I must con gratulate The Pendulum for sur facing the matter at hand. In a “learning environment” which we have all chosen to participate in, I hope it has been realized by all that the aforementioned crime was self ish, disrespectful, childish and not to be mimicked. I trust that the person who des ecrated these photos will not deter others from displaying their art work. Fear should not limit one’s artistic expressions. Again, thanks should be given to the college com munity for taking the responsibil ity of protecting one student’s rights to display art. Jill Duffy Student Disgusted hy Duck, Geese Remnants on Sidewalks by Harden To the Editor: The ducks and geese near Harden Dining Hall are very beau tiful, but what they leave on the sidewalks isn’t. I walk on the side walks daily and they are very clean, except when I am going to eat. I understand that the ducks and geese do what they need to do, but couldn’t to eat? Isn’t it unsanitary to walk through that stuff, then track it into the dining hall where our food is cooked then served? I just feel that if it is not hard to fix a problem, then why not? Sincerely, Jason Gross the school find someone to clean it up? It would be easy for them to pay people or to have individuals who owe campus restitution hours clean the sidewalks of animal drop pings. Why should we have to look where we are going while walking with the highest ability and poten tial in the country. In the past couple of years, Elon College has made other necessary changes to improve it's team rankings among the other schools within the SAC conference that include changes in team philosophies, strategies, and preparation techniques that have turned each team into serious con tenders in our conference and re gional sections. These revisions have made serious alterations in the records of nearly every varsity inter-collegiate sport at Elon. In fact, the men’s basketball team alone, last year, increased its games won by more than four times those of the two previous years com bined and seven times the record from the 1994-95 season. Now, more than ever, the athletics de partment at Elon College needs the support of our fans from both this university and from the Burlington community to push us into the next level of competition successfully and make Elon College be the pow erhouse that it once was. GO FIGHTING CHRISTIANS. Sincerely, Keith Bethea JMs Week Betweexi a rock and a h^d I place. Elon Celebration! Yout Chuteh on Campus Sutid^gs, 1t:004in Whitley AudttOfiuin
