Aprii 2,1998 News ’Godfather of consumer activism* to speak Tuesday Michelle Cater Editor in Cheif Ralph Nader, known as the godfather of activism, will be speak ing at 7:30 p.m. on Tues day, April 7 in Whitley Auditorium. The speech, which is sponsored by the Lib eral Arts Forum, is free and open to the public. Nader, who was re cently named one of the most influential Ameri cans in the 20th century by Time Magazine, will be speaking on energy and the environment and the responsibility of corpo rate America. Amy Tobias, one of the student coordinators pf Nader’s visit, said the Liberal Arts Forum chose Nader because they felt Ralph Nader he would draw a large and diverse audience. Anne Cassebaum, the adviser for the Liberal Arts Forum, said Nader was a very respected con sumer activist and said he “is promoting a de mocracy we just don’t have in this country.” This will not be Nader’s first visit to Elon. Cassebaum said he spoke here in the 70s. His speech prompted several students to form PIRG, the Public Inter est Research Group. Nader will be available to answer ques tions after his speech.
