The Pendulum
Elon College has made plans
to demolish the student Health Ser
vices building, which is currently
located next to the new library and
the science building. The demoli
tion may take affect this summer.
No reason has been given for the
change.
There are no specific plans on
where Health Services would be
moved. Elon is having a difficult
time finding a location. Previous
ideas have been to renovate the
exsisting building or use a space in
Moseley. One idea was to put the
department in the old Winn-Dixie
behind the local Pizza Hut. That
would make Health Services about
a half a mile west of campus.
Dr. Ellington feels that a
“good health room setup is vital to
a college.” He feels that the current
location is “warm and
inviting.. .convenient,” and “where
a health organization should be. ” In
several emergency calls nurses have
had to run to the dorms to help
students. Many students are just
walking by the building and stop by
to have something checked out
early. The move may discourage
students from coming in early and
they will wait until their symptoms
are much more severe. Students

they head out to a Halloween Bash on Saturday night.
The Student Government
Association (SGA) appointed three
students to vacant Senate positions
at the Oct. 29 meeting.
Senior Colleen Crotty, junior
Dennis Burlew and freshman Travis
Suber were voted into office after
speaking on their behalf at the meet
ing.
Crotty assumed the office of
senior class secretary/treasurer, a
position left open after the impeach
ment of Senior Class President
Emily Matesic.
Senior Class Vice-president
Angela Olsen accepted the office of
president Oct. 1. Senior Class Sec
retary/Treasurer Jenn Wrightmoved
up to vice-president, leaving the
secretary/treasurer seat vacant.
Crotty’s appointment passed
with a unanimous vote.
Her goals are to serve in the
position in the best way she can and
to be open and fair.
“I’m an active member of my
sorority, I’m an active community
member and I volunteer,” Crotty
said.
“I’ve been a leader in these
positions and I think if I’m a leader,
maybe I can inspire others to lead as
well.”
Some of her new duties in
clude serving as a support unit to
the Homecoming Committee, help
ing to plan the new Elon 401 transi
tion class and working^^lA the bud
get committee, activities to which
she looks forward.
“She sounds very dedicated,
which is important with such atime-
consuming position,” SGA Execu
tive President Mark Richter said.
Burlew and Suber took the
two open spots as representatives to
the social sciences department.
“I think both will be very ac
tive in the Academic Council,”
Richter said.
“They work with the Aca
demic Council, its liasion MattSyno
and Julianne Maher to address the
academic needs of Elon students.”
Burlew, a sociology and hu
man services double major, hopes
to be a voice for his department.
