The Pendulum
The Student Government
Association (SGA) voted on a num

Presented to the Senate by

Shuttle, tram

The Pendulum
Service on the Elon Express
Shuttle and the new Elon Tram ex
panded to cover new routes Feb. 3.
Both the shuttle and the tram
now run from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Monday-Friday while classes are
in session.
The Elon Express Shuttle
route now includes both the east
and west sides of campus. The
shuttle route begins at the Oak Hill
apartments off Haggard Ave., also
servicing the Elon Place apartments.
The shuttle runs up and down
Haggard Ave., making stops at the
Moseley Center, the traffic light
near the McMichael Science Cen
ter and at the crosswalk at the center
of campus.
The final stop on the route is
the West End apartments, at which
point it turns around and runs the
route again.

veto power over amendments to the
executive president, name changes
for two of the SGA committees,
redefinitions of bills, resolutions and
the SGA purpose and the inclusion
of the Senate Dialogue in the by
laws.
“The Constitution is out
dated,” Angel said. “But a lot of the
stuff we did was just clarification.”
According to the constitution,
elections have to be held three weeks
after amendment changes are passed
in the Senate so the student body
may vote on them.
Those amendments which
passed at the Feb. 4 meeting will be
included on the ballot during the
SGA Elections Feb. 22-23.
Although 13 of the proposed
amendment changes passed in the
Senate, two controversial changes
to the constitution did not.
Proposed revisions to Article
VIII, which details election qualifi
cations and process, and Article XI,
which governs the impeachment
process, were voted down by the
Senate.
The proposed change to Ar
ticle VIII was to include a require
ment that any person wishing to run
for a position as an SGA executive
must have a year’s experience with
SGA.

Career Center aids three IBM interns
Alan Medeiros
The Pendulum
Three Elon students have re
cently been placed in internships
with IBM through the Elon College
Career Center.
Joel Watson, Cathy Woelfel
and Jeff Bishcler were all placed in
full-time, career track positions at
IBM in Research Triangle Park.
While it used to be rare that a
'corporation as large as IBM would
come to recruit on a campus of
Elon’s size, this is part of a new
trend.
Bonnie Krosse, of the Elon
■ College Career Center explained this
new trend in corporate recruiting.
“Rather than waiting for ap
plicants to go to corporations, cor
porations are now coming to col
lege campuses and recruiting stu
dents.”
“Here at Elon we work ag
gressively with prospective employ
ers to market students’ skills
strongly.”
Watson feels that the help
given to him from the Career Cen
ter staff was vital in landing this
position.
Krosse said that this is an
excellent example of just one of the
many opportunities that are avail
able to Elon College students
through the career center.
