The most notable of these changes will be the movernent of College Coffee and College Chapel to a new time and new days. Col lege Coffee will move from its 9:20- 9:50 a.m. time slot on Wednesdays to Tuesdays from 9:50-10:20 a.m. College Chapel, which is held from 9:20-9:50 a.m. on Fridays, will move to Thursdays into the same time slot as College Coffee, The new schedule will change the times during which day classes are held, but not the length of class periods or the times of evening classes. The changes will, however, allow for committees such as Ad missions, Religious Life, Media Scholarship, Curriculum and many more to meet between 3:50 and 5 p.m. during Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. A factor in the decision to change the class schedule was to enable student committee members to attend the meetings. In the past, the committees have had problems because meet ings were held during the class pe riods of their student members. see SCHEDULE, page 5 4 ill V Fire in Smith dorm causes minor damage, no injuries Carrie Lancos The Pendulum Workers hang Elon banners to welcome guests to campus. Emily MacDonnell/TTie Pendulum No one was injured in a two-alarm fire that broke out in a first floor room of Smith dorm Saturday night. The fire started around 11 p.m. in room 109. A couch in the room caught fire, sending smoke into the first floor hallway and out the window of the room. The two residents of the room were not home at the time of the fire. First floor Smith CDC Drew Bedard reported smelling smoke just after 11 p.m. The fire alarm went off at 11:30 p.m. LaRhonda Johnson, a Carolina CDC who was on duty that night, was alerted to the fire in the East Area office. “Drew [Bedard] paged me, but then he ran in and said he needed the master key since one of the rooms was on fire,” Johnson said. “We ran over to Smith and met the Campus Security officer who had a fire extinguisher. When he opened the door to the room, this big ball of greenish smoke came out the door.” Bedard and Johnson ran through all three floors of the building telling residents to evacuate. “We were yelling and banging on doors telling everyone to get out,” Johnson said. “I was sitting in a room on third floor when the alarm went off, but we ignored it like usual,” first floor Smith resident John Kline said.' “It wasn’t until the CDC on duty ran down the hall banging on doors saying, ‘It’s real!’ that we actually got out.” see SMITH, page 5 PEND tyou,kn m rtheSerbMh Sourcs: Newsweek Poll, 4n-2 Student carjacked in JC parking lot Alan Medeiros The Pendulum An Elon College student was a victim of carjacking early Mon day morning in the Jordan Center parking lot.
