Names and class titles have been altered to protect the privacy of people involved. Tom was a student in a 300-level sociology class. The second half of the semester was exceptionally busy for Tom and he found he had not allotted enough time to complete a sociology paper on a person who had been significant in the field. Rather than risk a poor grade on a late assignment, Tom turned to the Internet and found a paper on the famous figure. While the paper didn't exactly meet the requirements of the assignment, Tom felt it was better for him to turn in something rather than let the deadline pass. Tom re-typed the paper and changed a few of the words. The instructor recognized the writing as being too advanced for the student and was further alerted when the paper did not match the assignment. After a little searching, the instructor found the article on the Internet. The student admitted his guilt.
