Riza Aquino
When guests at a Liberal Arts Forum dinner began to compliment one another at their table of the sheer
greatness of the dinner’s premise, Riza Aquino humbled the guests. In her typically proactive prose, she
reminded them how lucky they were to have the opportunity to meet with someone of great significance, and
more importantly how lucky they were to have dinner to eat in the first place. Her intentions were obviously
not to condescend, and most certainly she didn’t, one student related.
Riza’s activism manifests itself in many forms, for example in that memorable statement. Late last year
she began planning the creation of a Sierra Club on campus, an organization that recently won “Best New
Organization” at the OAIC Award Ceremony.
Her efforts in this week’s coordination of Earth Day have been largely praised, as well as her work abroad
as part of her human services major. Her ideology is one of constant giving and no taking - contributing in full
and seeing what comes of it.
The most memorable fact about Riza, however, is the recurring statement from advisers and students that
involvement would improve drastically “if only there were more role models like Riza.”

Jude Dooley
Jude Dooley knows what it is like to change opinions. As the Head Resident of Jordan
Center, he has done just that. Once known as an Elon eyesore, Jordan Center is now one of
the most popular places to live on campus. Dooley’s leadership has given Jordan Center a
new reputation and earned Dooley the respect of students, faculty and staff on Elon’s campus.
Dooley, a junior Elementary Education major, works in the Office of Residence Life
and the Chaplain’s office, as well as overseeing a staff of seven CDCs. The CDCs say it is
his commitment to the residents that makes him such an asset to Elon.
“Jude really gets to know his residents,” CDC Tim Peregoy said. “He makes an effort
to get to every person in every room in JC and talk to them. Jude loves Jordan Center.”
This year Dooley has overseen many programs, including Marley Pest, Shoutfest, and
a white water rafting trip for the residents of JC. Dooley will continue to keep up his
commitment to Residence Life in a new way next year by becoming the Head Resident of
the Danieley Center.

Maurice Gardner
Look in the African-American resource room on any give day and you’re likely
to see sophomore Maurice Gardner hard at work making the most of his experience
at Elon,
Gardner is currently serving as President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council,
in addition to being Vice-President of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. In addition to
his Greek activities, Gardner is Chaplain of both the Black Cultural Society and
Elon’s Finest. He is also involved in the Epsilon Sigma Alpha service sorority and is
active in the Gospel Choir.
Fellow Alpha Phi Alpha brother Maurice Williams feels that Gardner is “very
dedicated. He puts all of his heart and determination into everything he does,” said
Williams.
In addition to the numerous organizations that Gardner is involved in, he is also
an Isabella Cannon Leadership Fellow.

Kelly Reimer
As the Student Coordinator of Elon Volunteers!, Kelly Reimer oversees almost
3,000 volunteers. She spends between 25 and 30 hours a week in the EV! office
working on the administrative end of one of Elon’s largest organizations.
Reimer, a junior International Studies and Business major, leads a staff of over
50 directors and coordinators of volunteers throughout the year. She also deals with
the adminstrative end of EV!, overseeing budgeting, local service agencies and
management issues.
“Kelly’s commitment to the leaders and volunteers of EV! is incredible,”
Service Learning Intern Cam Tims said. “Her dedication has created a strong and
supportive staff which has allowed an increase in the percentage of students
participating in service experiences.”
