18 April 22, 1999 The Pendulum A-List Honorable Mentions It is a credit to Elon College to say that there were far too many members of the faculty, staff and student body to include in this list. However, there are some notable members of the Elon College community who may not have received the votes, hut we feel deserve recognition. Faculty and Staff • Laura Helvey, policial science professor: Her reputation for intelligent, challenging and disciplined instruction; stimulating, discussion-based classes; and honest interest in students' opinions makes her a popular adviser for majors and a cornerstone of the Political Science department. • Evin Lambert, music professor: A constant, visible presence in the Model Center, Lambert has distinguished himself by leading the Elon College Concert and Chamber Choirs and by keeping his ear for music tuned to the students' needs as well. • Greg Lilly, economics professor: Considered by many as having a "fatherly" role in the department, he is respected for his comfortable teaching style and interest in students' lives and activities both in and out of the classroom. • Tara M.ichels, journalism/communications professor: With unparalleled energy and a willingness to go against the status quo, she has pioneered and developed an advertising concentration while continuing to challenge her students into rethinking old norms. • Fred Young,/ormer Elon College President: He finished his term with the opening of the McMichael Science Center, groundbreaking on the new library and the instilling of renewed vigor in the Elon Vision and in the school itself. • Dave, McEwen pasta guy: Mix two parts humor, three parts friendly conversation and a dash of sage like wisdom and you have a recipe for two things: Damn fine pasta and a damn fine guy. Students • Jim Qtoiis, junior: Recently elected to be the '99-00 SGA Executive Treasurer, he authored the majority of the legislation presented in this year's SGA Senate and organized this year's OAIC. • Corbie Meadows, junior: She presided over this year's SGA Senate as Executive Vice- President with professionalism and was a familar face on numerous committees. • Ellic Senter, junior: Everpresent in the New Student Orientation office, he continues to make Orientation an enjoyable and beneficial part of the freshman experience at Elon. • Jessica Witak, freshman: Only in her second semester at Elon, she was selected to be Program Manager for WSOE and to head press relations for Model United Nations. • Akilah Weaver, junior: She served as a Student Ambassador for Minority Affairs and as SGA Executive Secretary, she organized this year's highly successful Homecoming events. • Kelly Wingate, sophomore: Despite being busy with her duties as a GDC for third floor Virgirua, an employee of the Office of Television Services, a DJ for WSOE and an Honors student; she did have time to be honored with the position of West Area Head Resident for next year.
