Datatel shutting down for upgrade today

Due to an upgrade in some
parts of campus computing soft
ware, many administrative com
puter functions are scheduled to shut
down at 4 p.m. today.
Datatel, the software used to
process many administrative, in
cluding purchasing, accounts pay
able and the Bursar’s office, will be
shut down until October 11 in order
to facilitate the upgrade of the sys
tem to software that was designed
over the summer.
This upgrade is a realization
of several stages of planning to up
grade an antiquated system.
“The upgrade to the Datatel
network is something we’ve been
looking at for a long time,” said an
ISNT office source.
Although students will not be
able to process any financial func
tions through the bursar’s office,
there will be almost no noticeable
e^ect on a student’s daily life.
“While there may be some
problems with the meal plan sys
tem, students will still be served
food. There may be some delays in
the dining halls, but other than that,
there should be little if no effect,”
said an ISNT office source. “Regu
lar student functions such as e-mail
and access to the internet should
not experience any interruptions
whatsoever during this change
over.”
While few students will no
tice the changes of the new system,
it will eliminate much of the redun
dancy that has plagued the admin
istrative computing systems.
