The team moved up from last week’s ranking of 25th nationally. There are over 120 teams considered in the Division I-AA ranking. “Of course, we’re hoping to keep up the [unde feated] run as long as possible,” said Sports Information Director David Hibbard. Hibbard admitted that Western Illinois, who Elon is set to face this weekend, is a tough team that may pose a threat to the undefeated streak. Western Illinois beat Elon last year 17-7 and were ranked 24th in the same national polls on Monday. “These next four weeks will be the most intense,” he said, referring to Elon’s future matchups against Samford, Hofstra, and Charleston Southern. This weekend’s game is the sixth of the season for Elon, now ranked at 5-0. Should Elon defeat Western Illinois, it will have tied its own record of undefeated games set during the 1986 season. That year in game seven, Gardner-Webb Univer sity punted a field goal in the last minute to defeat Elon 33- 31 and bringing Elon ’ s record to 6-1. “That’s the closest we’ve ever been to a play off bid,” said Hibbard. “Our 5-0 is behind us. We’re still practicing like it’s the beginning of the season, and Coach [A1 Seagraves] is still running us hard and trying to keep us focused. He doesn’t want to see us complacent,” said junior quarter back Derrick Moore. ■S'-a fee see FOOTBALL, page 5 . , , « „ MacDonnell/TTie Pendulum Elon running back Steven Ferguson (#6) wards off linebacker Luigi Amasino (#13) of the University of New Haven during Elon’s 20-16 victory over the Chargers Saturday, Oct. 2. Condos planned for Elon College outskirts Kelly Allen Contributing Reporter ^resident Leo Lambert welcomes parents to his home during Sunday’s College Coffee at Maynard House. “Build it and they will come...” That is what the town of Elon College has been saying for the past ten years of the Mill Pointe community right outside the col lege. Ten years ago a group of in vestors bought 90 acres from the Elon Homes for Children for $2 million. They bought this land in hopes of developing high-end housing in the Elon College Community. - , Now, their dream is becom ing a reality. It took ten long, hard years of revamping and revising to get this venture off the ground. The planned community was originally supposed to have 150 condominiums modeled after simi lar structures in the Pinehurst and Southern Pines communities. Now the development is ex pected to put between 45 and 50 condominiums on the property. Now included with the condomini ums are lots for large single family homes. In 1993 the property received a Planned Residential Development agreement. With this agreement the de veloper is allowed to mix the uses of the zoning district, in this case varying the sizes of the lots. The layout today has the single family home lots skirting the perimeter and the condominiums in the interior of the development. The development has four phases that will be underway in the coming years; see CONDOS, page 5
