It is also used to set college ranking such as the one produced by U.S. World News and Faith Gaskins The Pendulum Annie Reilly The Pendulum Tm PutkNix Camu It’s Sunday night. You realize that you have no clothes for the week ahead, except for a random pair of pajama bot toms and a sweater tucked in your dresser drawer. Obviously, you desperately need to do laundry, except you have no quarters. In fact, you are penniless, never mind quarterless. So, you cruise your hall ask ing for change, and conveniently everyone is broke. You panic worrying about wearing pajama bottoms and a sweater But, have no fear, Elon students, the Phoenix card can now erase these memories of inconvenience because it is extremely versatile, and laundry is only one of its many features. “Everything has become so easy for students with the new card. It gives us a few less things to worry about,” Sophomore Laura Griffin said. Students can do everything with this new system- from banking to buying books to gaining access to athletic events. The Phoenix card will simplify many of the services here on campus. The Phoenix card account. Food Only Account, Board Plan points, and Meal Plan Counts are all on the Phoenix card. Students can also set up a Wachovia College Checking Account separate from the on campus accounts ■■■■■■■■■ and link it to the Phoenix card. An AT&T phone card option can also be added to your card for free. The standard per minute rate for a long distance call is 20 cents. One of the most convenient fea tures of the Phoenix Card Account is that left over money rolls over to the follow ing semester unlike the boarding plans. Deposits can be made to this ac count throughout the semeister in the Phoenix card office in Moseley lllA, Bursar’s office, and the Value Transfer Station in the Belk Library first floor copy room. Remember that the funds you deposit can not be withdrawn from your Phoenix Account unless you are finished here at Elon. Elon College has been reclassified as a Masters I (comprehensive) institu tion by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The foundation, based in Menlo Park, California, previously classified Elon as a Masters II institution. The advance represents a revision in the cen tral emphasis of the foundation to focus more on teaching and number of degrees offered. Institutions use this classification Report. “We believe the new classifica tion is a true reflection of Elon’s compre hensive nature, “ states President Leo M. Lambert.” “In 2000, Elon awarded more than 65master’s degrees in business adminis tration, education and physical therapy.” About 650 of the nations 3,856 higher educational institutions changed categories with Elon. Fifteen of those institiutions are in North Carolina. Pi Kappa Phi raises money for Push Jenna Mintem The Pendulum n f 0 r m i n g the Elon College Community M^pendulvm W W W . Biking 3,700 miles from San Fran cisco to Washington D.C is a unique way to spend your summer. This bike trip, called Journey of Hope involved one of Elon's students. Pi Kappa Phi fraternity member and Elon senior, Tim Peregoy was a member of the Journey of Hope support team as the communication di rector. The Journey of Hope is a fundraiser for people with disabilities in its 13th year. Push America, which Journey of Hope is a small part of, is the national organization for Pi Kappa Phi members to express their philanthropy. Pi Kappa Phi is new on campus at Elon and is earning a name for their community service. Grahaeme Hesp, the director of Greek life, says of the new fraternity on campus that they are "cer tainly a very devoted group with leaders in many organizations." Fraternity member Josh Phoebus says that is was "wonderful that Tim dedicated his summer to Journey of Hope to raise money for kids with disabilities. It took great leadership to do what he did." Pi Kappa Phi has other plans in the works to raise more money for Push America. The chapter raised around 750 dollars at an alcohol free dance last year and plans to do much more. During the summer, a storm wiped out many of the old oak trees around campus. This oak toppled in front of Whitley Auditorium, and lifted some of the sidewalk with it.
