March 15, 2001 Elon At a Glance' Page 11 ro^rams Gufiuraf O^r Tuesday, March 27 Ricardo Cobo, guitar Whitley Auditorium, 8 p.m. Considered one of the world’s top classical guitarists, Columbia bom Ricardo Cobo has astonished audiences in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. With an impressive array of gold medals in almost every major international competi tion he is recognized for his interpretation of contemporary classical guitar music. A two time doctoral fellow at Florida State, Cobo also studied at the Peabody conservatory and the NC School of the Arts. The recipient of many awards for his numerous recordings, Cobo now serves on the faculty of the University of Nevada and divides residency between New York and Las Vegas. Thursday, March 29 Sheila Dauer, “State Sponsored and Private Actor Violence Against Women.” Whitley Auditorium, 7:30 p.m. Sheila Dauer is the Director of Amnesty Intemational Women’s Human Rights Program. On the staff of the AIUSA since 1979, Dauer has directed the AIUSA’s cam paign on women’s human rights in conjunction with the United National Fourth World Conference on Women, and has recently led major study on torture of women through out the world. She will share her experiences. Sponsored by General Studies. Thursday-Friday, March 29 and 30 Elan Presents A Little Torch Music Yeager Recital Hall, 7:30 p.m. Elon’s vocal jazz ensemble, directed by Stephen A. Futrell, will perform a variety of solos, duets and ensemble pieces made famous by jazz vocal legends such as Billie Holliday, Joe Williams, Louis Armstrong, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, and Nat King Cole. Friday, March 30 Robert Morgan, reading Carlton 206, 2:30 p.m. Morgan, poet and fiction writer, will be reading from his work and talking abut his novel Gap Creek, which was selected by Oprah Winfrey for her book club. Morgan teaches at Comell University and is the author of seven books of poetry and fiction.
