Elon A to Z
starting at a new school can be
a rough transition from the com
fort of your hometown and all
your friends to this new, strange
environment filled with endless
possibilities. Where do you go for
fun? How do you meet people?
Where is the communications
building? Wait...there’s a com
munications building?
Every Elon student can remem
ber those awkward first days of
not quite knowing where to go or
what to do. But fear not; this
place is not as big as you think,
and within two weeks, you may
never want to leave.
For those first few days of
uncertainty, here are a few point
ers, locations and terms you will
hear before your first month of
school is over.
Acorns abound around Elon,
including at
the Acorn
Coffee Shop,
where stu
dents can use
their meal
plan to buy
pastries, deli-
style sand
wiches, coffee
and shakes.
Books, books and
more books. Buy them
now before all the used
copies are gone, or you
may be spending $400 for
your fall classes.

Danieley Center
Commons offers a
change of pace from the
dining halls with food
cooked right in front of
you on the grill.
Elon 101.
Virtually every student
takes this fun-filled
class freshman year.
Fonville foun
tain. In front of Alamance, it looks
quite appealing for a midnight
swim. But be warned, those caught
are fined for each body part in the
fountain.
Greensboro is only 20 minutes
south of Elon and is the closest
major city.
Health Center. The R.N.
Ellington Health and Counseling
Center is between ^
Moseley and
Harden Dining
Hall.
Internet.
The World Wide
Web is your best
friend in col
lege. All dorms
have Internet access with high
speed connections.
Jordan Center.
Some people may call
it the ghetto, but to
those who live there,
JC will always be
home.
Koury Center is
home to the basketball
team and Elon’s gyms,
racquetball courts,
weight room and pool.
All you need is your
Elon I.D. to get in.
Library Visit
Belk often. Find
a study room
upstairs.
Media at
Elon. Get
involved in one
of Elon’s five dif
ferent media-
based organizations: WSOE,
The Pendulum, ESTV,
Colonnades and Phi Psi Cli.
Never be afraid to try
something new. College is
the best time to find out who
you are and to try new
things.
Organizations. With
more than 140 to choose
from, there is
something at
Elon for everyone.
Phoenix. Rising
from the ashes, Elon’s
mascot represents the
school’s recovery after a
1923 fire destroyed
most of the campus.
Quiet time. Can’t find any in
your crowded dorm? Try a night
time walk by Lake Mary Nell or a
cozy corner in the
library.
Rhodes
Stadium. Don’t miss
the Phoenix in the sec
ond year of play in the
new stadium.
Study abroad.
Elon offers programs in Europe,
Asia, Africa, South America,
thing every student should do before
graduation.
Tom Deluca. The nationally
renowned hypnotist will return to
Elon to work his magic on Monday,
Aug. 26.
Under the Oaks. Holding
graduation on the West area lawn is
an Elon tradition.
Vaccinations.
'j Meningitis is more
prevalent among
college freshmen
than any other
group. The health
center offers vacci
nations to protect
you from deadly ill
ness.
Weekends at
Elon. Have fun and relax, but don’t
forget about your classes Monday
morning.

don’t forget to get

classes, activities

Zone. The
Zone is next to the
mail room in
Moseley. When Octagon is crowded
at lunchtime, take your lunch to the
Australia and Hawaii. This is one Zone for a quiet meal.
