Fairy tale dreams do come
true, but only after the heroine
comes to her senses in “Sweet
Home Alabama.”
This light-hearted, romantic
comedy stars Reese Witherspoon
as New York City fashion design
er Melanie Carmichael. She is
given the proposal every girl
dreams of by the mayor’s son,
Andrew (Patrick Dempsey), that
includes a turquoise Tiffany’s
box.
With a new future ahead of her,
Carmichael travels back home to
Pigeon Creek, Ala., to tie up the
loose-ends of her past. She must
divorce from her husband Jake
(Josh Lucas), who is her former
high-school sweetheart.
While at home, Carmichael
realizes the family she tried to
hide for seven years was not as
bad as she thought. She realizes
that while she is happy in New
York, being back home feels just
as good, if not better. Carmichael
must decide which man she wants
to marry and life she wants to
lead.

light-hearted rendition of the
familiar love triangle, but this
time the screenplay and acting
adds great depth to the movie
itself.
Witherspoon delivers a witty
performance that makes the
movie entertaining to watch.
Lucas’s seemingly-dumb charac
ter proves to be quite smart and
witty in the end. The characters
are well-developed and audiences
are able to relate to them, which is
reflected in the quality of the
movie.
The writing provides a humor
ous look at how imperfect fami
lies can be. Witherspoon realizes
her family is important and is a
huge part of the person she has
become whether she likes it or
not.
