Colonnades showcases students’ creativity tlirougli words and images

Elon’s student-run literary
magazine offers students a
creative way to remember
their year.
Colonnades annually pub
lishes students’ fiction, non
fiction, art, poetry, photogra
phy and digital art. Entries for
the magazine are accepted
throughout the fall semester.
During Winter Term, the edi
torial staff makes selections
from the entries.
These selections are then
passed on to the editor-in-
chief, who makes the final
decision on which submis
sions will be published.
The magazine publishes
about 50 to 60 entries per
year. About 30 staff members
work to put the magazine
together.
During spring semester,
staff members devote a'large
amount of time setting up get
ting the final layout. Once the

prominent around campus,”
said Matt Fiander, the editor
of Colonnades.
As editor, Fiander oversees
the layout of the publication
and selection of staff, as well
as the printing and distribu
tion of the magazine.
“The unveiling of last
year’s magazine was a fafrly
big day. We distributed some
where between 700 and 800
magazines in that one day. It
was quite exciting and we
were and are still very proud
of that publication,” said
Fiander.
When submitting a piece,
students are asked to include
their Social Security numbers
and title of the work on the
top of the first page of each
piece submitted. Submissions
must be received in a hard
copy and on a Mac-formatted
computer disk.
Attach to each submission a
separate index card with your
Social Security number, title
of work, name, campus box
number, phone number and e-
mail address.
Poetry and fiction must be
basically grammatically and
mechanically correct or they
will not be accepted. This
year, photographs and artwork
will be printed in color.
