With approximately 900 seniors slated to receive diplomas and more than 10,000 guests expected on campus, the week has been jam- packed with events and activities for this year’s graduating class. Saturday, May 22 7:30 a.m. - Graduating seniors and their families are invited to join faculty and staff at Scott Plaza for breakfast. 9:30 a.m. - Commencement exercises, held on the lawn Under the Oaks. Dr. J. Earl Danieley will deliv er this year’s commencement address. After students receive their diplo mas, they will be presented with oak saplings to replace the acorns they received as freshmen. These saplings are gifts from President Leo Lambert. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to Alumni Gym. Those who do not hold inclement weather tickets may view Commencement on closed-circuit television. Friday, May 21 11 a.m. - ROTC Commi .sioning Ceremony in Yeager Recital Hall. , 3 p.m. - Baccalaureate will be held in Alumni Gym. The Most Reverend Thomas Gumbleton, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Detroit, will deliver the Baccalaureate sermon. Rey. Gumbleton as a founding member of Pax Christi, a national Catholic peace movement. 4:30 p.m. - The awards ceremony and reception for Leaders for the 21st century recognizes graduating members of Elon’s many fellows programs and will be held in McCrary Theatre. 6:30 p.m. - The Legacy Dinner, held in Woods Center, is for graduating seniors who have siblings, parents or oth er relations who have attended Elon. These seniors and their families are invited to dinner by the Office of Alumni Relations. 6:30 p.m. - The MBA graduation ceremony will be held in Whitley Auditorium. 8 p.m. - Seniors, families, faculty and staff are invited to a panel of pre sentations of seniors’ hard work. The presentations will be held in McCrary Theatre. Thursday, May 20 6-8 p.m. - Seniors and their families are invited by the Office of Alumni Affairs to the Celebration Graduation Picnic, to be held on the lawn beside Moseley Center. The evening provides an opportunity for seniors and their families to mingle with faculty and staff and enjoy one last Elon moment. The evening also invites Elon seniors to assume their new role at Elon: alumni.
