Located at the intersection of St. Mark’s Church Road and Church Street, The Shoppes at Savannah West include Simtel Wireless Solutions, which opened its doors in early July. Vidas Fine Jewelry & Gifts opened on Sept. 22, said owner Vickie Felten. Asian Taste Japanese & Chinese restaurant will be ready to open soon. “Asian Taste just received its permit on Sept. 28, and hopefully will be ready to open In two weeks," said Lee Wilson, develop er of the shopping center. ^ One possible tenant for the remaining four available spots include a tanning salon, but Wilson could not reveal any more -information as to which stores could be moving into the shopping center. Vida’s Fine Jewelry & Gifts, an upscale shop selling everything from pearls to mink scarves to pic ture frames, hopes to increase business when Asian Taste opens and once more stores move into the shopping center. Since opening, Felten says quite a few Elon students have visited. “Vida’s has many beautiful and very claijsy pieces,” sophomore Ashlyn Dixon said. “The owner is a sweet lady, and the customers feel very welcome. It is a little more upscale than some jewelry stores in the area, which is nice as well. If you want quality, Vida's is the place to go.” Construction for the shopping center began a year and a half ago and was fully completed in time for Simtel, a Verizon wireless store, to open in July. Land for another shopping'cen- ter is being cleared directly across the street from The Shoppes at Savannah West. Construction for the new center will begin in March 2005 and will take about a year, according to Wilson. This sister center will be called Savannah West, and will be approximately four times the size of The Shoppes at Savannah West. Wilson said he could not dis close any possible tenants for the new center. Kurt Pearson, plan ner of the new shopping center, said that at least one restaurant will be opened in Savannah West.
