The Pendulum r.RADUATION EDITION Saturday, May 21,2005 • Page 17 c? In tune with student band Anonymous Ashley Busch Reporter You’ve seen them on campus playing at least once a week. You’ve danced to the music night after night , and become friends with at least one of the members of the band. Anonymous: Elon’s neigh borhood jam band. Their eclectic mix of influences from jazz to rock to soul cre ate a sound that may seem popular or overdone in today’s music scene but to Nick MacDaniels, Lyden Nee, Sean Lynch, Chad “Belushi” Taylor, Hunter Gardener and those that come out to see them, the band is something more than just a jam session at local parties or events. The quality and dedication in their music and good times always have people coming back for more knowing that Anonymous is special and worth watching. “From the beginning, every single aspect of our band, from recording and live sound to booking gigs and promo tion, the whole operation, has been self- contained,” Nee said. “We've been able to do everything ourselves and I think that's something special because it makes Anonymous entirely our creation.” The band started eight years ago in Maryland with Nee, gui tar and vocals, and Gardener, drums. They were joined a cou ple of years later by MacDaniels, vocals and guitar. Together they played small ven ues and produced a cd. But it was here at Elon that they have spent the past two years honing their skills at Lighthouse Tavern and other local venues, playing and picking up the right musi cians to really make the band work. With Lynch, bass and piano, and Taylor, saxophone. It's where we formed and grew up. I feel like we're con stantly getting better, and that we've come a long way from where we were last year. That wouldn't have happened without the opportunity to play at the Lighthouse so often.” Taylor adds, “We feel the most comfort able there.” They are currently working on a new album and are eagerly putting together a summer tour along the east coast. “Our web site was launched a few weeks ago which is updated daily to keep our fans informed on when we’re playing and what were doing,” Lynch said.
