TtTe'pafAilU^''' " T/13|„ Thursday, November 17, 2005 16' The freshman class of 2010 is just around the corner. • The head staff of Orientation is beginning preliminary work on next fall’s move-i^ day and new student transition by asking students to join their team Leigh Ann Vanscoy Features Editor Calling all energetic, friendly, Elon lovers. It’s that time of year again and New Student Orientation is looking for students interested in volunteering for a week of fun, lead ership and opportunity. “The goals for New Student Orientation are to help new students with a friendly and welcoming transition from high school life into the Elon community, as well as provid ing necessary information to first-year students,” said Amy Carraux, student coordinator of New Student Orientation. The head staff for the 2006 orientation has already been chosen. These students are pumped up and ready to begin the process. “We put together the Orientation Program as a whole,” said, sophomore member of head staff, Raleigh Lancaster. “Our main job is to advertise orientation, select next year's Orientation Leaders and train them so that they can help the class of 2010 have an easy transition from high school to college.” These students will start choosing Orientation Leaders after all applications are received on Feb. 10. Students are encouraged to come to Moseley 226 to talk to the head staff about filling out the form. Two recommen dations from professors, completing an interview with head staff, as well as answering essay questions about why you want to be an Orientation Leader are required. The staff is looking for people who are excited about helping the new students move in and transition in to college life. “An Orientation Leader should fully under stand the purpose of New Student Orientation and be will ing to do ‘whatever it takes’ (our motto) to aid a new stu dent's transition,” Carraux said. “We are looking for the greatest quantity of the highest quality,” Lancaster said. “We are looking for individuals that are energetic, open-minded, strong-willed and excited to help new students in their transition to the institution.” Elon’s Orientation Program has always been held in the highest regards. Many students experienced a great move in day due to the Orientation Program. I had an awesome Orientation Leader,” said sophomore Charissa Evans. I saw the energy and enthusiasm she had.” Inspired by her experience, Evans decided to become an Orientation Leader this fall and is now a member of head staff. “It is a great way to meet lots of people,” Evans said. “It was probably the most fun week of my life.” Applicants should look forward to a once in a lifetime experience. “They will develop leadership skills, make new friends and grow personally all while giving back to the Elon com munity in a big way,” Carraux said. Applicants should become involved because he or she wants to aid in the transition of new students and give back to the university.
