Reporter Elon students, faculty and staff members got the opportunity to tell their stories and share their culture at the Multicultural Gala that took place on Friday in Moseley Center. “We each have a story to tell, a cul ture to share,” is the slogan for the Multicultural Student Council. On the day of the Gala, students were directed to start at the Office of Multicultural Affairs where they were given am;^ of the Gala to visit the culturally-themed offices and rooms. After visiting the rooms they evaluated the event and voted for tfieir fevorite rocans. The winner, based on presentation, cre ativity and cultural knowledge, was The Office of Residence Life for its representation of Occaneechi Tribe of the Saponi Nation. Some of the other countries and cultures represented at the Gala were Greece, China, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Japan, France, Puerto Rico, Australia, Bulgaria, Serbia and Korea, among many others. “I was happy to see how the Gala attract ed different groups of people that gathered to celebrate diversity and leam about different cultures,” said Raquel Corona, an intemational student from Mexico who attended the event. The event was hosted by the Multicultural Student Council, an organiza tion . affiliated with the Office of Multicultural Affairs that works to plan events that foster multicultural celebration and appreciation for diversity on Elon’s Campus. This is the first time that the activity was done.
