Elon students enjoyed food, recreation and
live music Sunday night at Elon Under the
Lights in firont of Alumni Gym as part of ori
entation weekend.
From 5:30 to 11 p.m., students, faculty
and staff gathered on the green to celebrate
the beginning of a new year at Elon with
outdoor fun.
Bouncy castles and a rock climbing wall
were set up at the side entrance of Moseley,
and cookout style food was served for pur
chase with meal plans. Students participat
ed in pickup games of football, volleyball
and ultimate Frisbee, while others simply
lay out on the grass to enjoy the weather and
community atmosphere.
“It was the first gathering of the whole cam
pus, and it was a good chance to see old friends
and make new ones,” sophomore John
McMillan said.
“It was a really relaxing way to get to see
people other than the ones who live in your
area of campus or are in your OL group,”
freshman Caroline Fox remarked.
Orientation Leaders sponsored the event,
which, unlike last year’s festivities, also
included live music, with the Sam Fisher Band
headlining the event.
Sam Fisher is currently on a cross-country
tour promoting his album “People Living,”
and his laid-back, thoughtful music added to
the upbeat feeling of the event.
“I thought that the band was really fiin, and
it was something that wasn’t only one genre so
only a few people would like it,” Fox said.
