Kicking it in San Antonio Powell brings 3 former players to Texas pro team Jordan Spritzer Assistant Sports Editor @JSpritzer Pro There’s an Elon University men’s soccer reunion of sorts beginning in San Antonio. Former Elon men’s soccer head coach Darren Powell was named the first head coach of the expansion franchise San Antonio EC in January, who’ll play in the United Soccer League (USL), the third tier of the United States’ soccer pyramid. Powell called on familiar faces — midfielder Miguel Salazar ’16 and defend- NEWS ers Sam McBride '16 and Austin Dunker '15 — to round out the roster. “It was a no-brainer to play here,” Dunker said. “It’s a dream come true to play for him again.” Dunker and McBride have each known Powell for more than a decade. The two started playing for the Greensboro Soccer Club, which Powell helped run, from a young age. “That’s the exciting thing for ttte — to see them develop, see them grow and sharing that jour ney with them,” Powell said.
