@mari3_abarreto
Come fall 2018, the Elon Uni
versity we’ve come to know this
semester will be entirely different.
A different group of seniors
will be preparing for gradua
tion, President Connie Book
will have a few months as uni
versity president under her belt,
Rochelle Ford — the new dean
of the School of Communica
tions beginning June 1 — will
be beginning her first semester
in the position, the East Neigh
borhood will be functional and
full of students and the ongoing
construction around campus will
be either completed or nearing
completion. For our graduating
seniors, they’ll be months into
their brand-new lives after Elon.
That’s a lot of change. And
while change isn’t always the
simplest of challenges to face, it
doesn’t have to be scary.
When I first came to Elon, I
wasn’t expecting to meet people I
know I’ll stay friends with years
beyond graduation. I wasn’t ex
pecting to have conversations
with people whose views are the
complete opposite of mine, and I
definitely wasn’t expecting those
to be some of my favorite mo
ments. I’ve grown so much since
my freshman year that I’m sure
my high school self wouldn’t rec
ognize me. And I don’t think I’m
alone in this.
It’s no secret this has been a
trying year for the Elon commu
nity. But rather than let the bad
outweigh the good, we find the

During the fall semester, the

the loss of two Elon students in
