He has studied at Wesleyan University Conn. received the L1.B degree from Harvard, and served as secretary to Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes from 1926 to 1941. He ^ a Fulbri^t Lecturer at Oxford and the Purington Visiting Professor at Mount Holyoke College. He has written prolifically in his field of constitutional law. Mr. Sutherland wiU inaugurate the Symposium at 3:00 in McEwen Hall on Monday ARTHUR E. SUTHERLAND Professor Bryce Lyon, an eminent American medievalist, is presently chairman of the Department of History and Keeney Pro. lessor of History at Brown University. Professor Lyon, having received the Ph.D. degree from Cornell University, is a member of the board of editors of the American Historical Review and has served in the same cecity with Speculum. He is the author of over fifty articles and author, co-editor, or translator of eleven books in his field. THE LIBERAL ARTS FORUM 1968-M BRYCE LYON Professor Hexter, widely acclaimed for his studies in Tudor. Stuart England, is the C. J. Stille Professor of History at Yale Uni. varsity. He received the M.A, and Ph.D degrees from Harvard. Recipient of Ford Foundation Fellowship, two Guggenheim and Fullbright Fellowships and a Huntington Library Research Fellow, ship, he is the author of several works as well as the highly pro vocative collection of scholarly articles and essays, "Reappraisals in History,” The Elon College Liberal Arts Ftfrum is congnlsaB entire, ly of undergraduate students. HEXTER Spring Symposium 1969 Professor 0. B. Hardison, the Forum’s second Humanities Lecturer, will present his third lecture. He is professor of English it the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Author of numerous publications of a variety of topics ranging from the Renaissance and Medieval criticism to a volume of poetry, Hardison received the Charles Homer Haskins Award In 1967. In July he will succeed Dr, Louis B. Wright as Director of the Folger Shakespeare Library. O.B. HARDISON, JR. Professor Heffner, the DistlnguishedServIce Professor of Dramatic Literature at the University of Indiana, is a former Fulbrlght Lec turer and fellow of Huntington and Folger Ubraries. His work Is in dramatic theory and criticism. Having taught at universities In this country and abroad, a reciplait of the American Education Theatre Association’s Distinguished Service Award, Heffher Is now Distinguished Visiting Lecturer at New York University, HUBERT C. HEFFNER Professor French, a native of England, received his Ph.D degree Jrom Cambridge University in idiysics. Associated with Cavendish ^ratories and the Atomic Energy Research Restatolishmmt in t^land and the Manhattan project InNewMexico, French’s research been in the area of experimental mechanics and prc^rtles of ®J^r and the pedagogy of idiyslcs. He Is presently Professor of %slc8, Massachusetts InstiWe of Technology. As a special attraction, the Liberal Arts Forum and the Lyceum Committee offer for your entertainment on Tuesday at 8:00 P.M.. the famed Eastman Brass Quintet from New York. The Quintet haf established itself both in this country and abroad and they have been called the finest of their kind. The musicians include: Daniel Patrylak, trumpet; Philip Collins, trumpet; Verne Reynolds, French horn; Donald Knaub, trombone; and Cherry Beauregard, tuba. The Liberal Arts Fonim presents Mrs. Randall Jarrell., wife of one of the most widely acclaimed poets America has produced; Randall JarreU. Mrs. Jarrell is a graduate of Stanford University, and she has studied at the Sorbonne in Paris. Having helped avhieve the final publication of many of her husband’s works, Mrs. Jarrell now travels widely reading and discussing his poetry. The public is invited to all concerts, lectures, and receptions, as well as a buffet luncheon on Friday provided reservations are made.
