-IM- I? LADIES and GENTLEMEN of the STUDENT SENATE, and MEMBERS OP THE STUDENT BODY: We have a few constructive comments to make concerning the dance which was held on Sat,*, November 9. We attended the dance and noticed that the Student Body was not fully participating. We found the music most enjoyable and asked ourselves, "V/hy aren't there more people here?" Thus, we have carefully considered the problem and the follov/ing questions are a result; 1, Was the poor attendance due to a lack of publicity and, if so, whom does this lack fall upon? 2, How far in advanc.e of the dance ’did the Senate appropriate the funds and notify the Publicity Committee of the event? 3, Was proper notice given to the Senate members of the meeting at which the bill was passed so that all could plan to attend? 4, How many Senators who voted for the dance had contacted their fellox-x classmates to learn of student opinion concerning the event? 5, Was the bill sent to the Senate Finance Committee for proper consid eration before it was discussed on the floor of the Senate? 6, Could the money/that was appropriated for this dance have been used for a more constructive purpose as far as the participation and ben efit of the general STUDENT BODY is concerned? After investigation, we should like to offer the following answers to our questions: 1. We feel that the lack 'of publicity was due to the fact that a "last- minute" call meeting was held on Wednesday, November 6, for the consid eration of this bill. . 2. The funds were appropriated at this November 6 meeting—three days before the dance. 3. Proper notice was not given to the Senators of this call meeting. They were informed of it on the day that it was held. We feel that when the appropriation of student funds is'being considered, all ■ Senators should be notified well in advance of call meetings so that they can plan to be present. 4. We believe that the Senators did not have the proper time to consider the bill. They should have the opportunity to mingle with members of their classes and learn of public opinion before casting a represent ative vote. 5. We are shocked to find that the bill was NOT sent to the Finance Committee or any other committee for consideration, ije feel that the Senate should follow its proper rules of procedure which have worked in the past and which we hope will work in the FUTURE. 6. We feel that the few people who attended the dance certainly en;)oyed it and they got their 0150 dollars worth. We feel that there is a lack of co-ordination in the SGA for the above reasons. We are looking forward.to seeing the next bill that the Senate passes. We hope that the lack of co-ordination will be remedied and in the future we hope to see a STRONGER, and BETTER, UNITED Student Government Association working for the Student Body, The Friendly Freshman and Friend P.S. Remember—"Walk softly and carry a big stick", but Senators, Just don't get beaten by your own weapon. (continued)
