Recognition of student leaders was the topic of discussion at the past
two Student Affairs Oommltttee meetings. After a lengthy discussion about
this topic, and discussion concerning the formation of a Leadership Society
the following suggestions were approved by the committee:
V 1. The qualifications for "IVho's Who" shall remain as they are.
2. A leadership society shall not be formed, but a way of recognizing
campus leaders shall be established.
3. The recognition shall be for seniors. It shall be based on an accum
ulation of points over the freshman, sophomore. Junior, and senior
years. The honor climax is to come “^.t the end of the junior year.
4. Transfer students shall have a minimum of accumulated points over a
two-year period*.
5. A cjrpe of point system shall be established.
6. Recognized students €hall sorvo as aides to the President of the Cdn.^,
'A aecond topic which was discuseed at length was the idea of having a '
b^k on or near the campus. The committee decided to send a cummunicatlon
tp Dr. Danieley recommending the exploration of this possibility. Such a
bank would lessen the difficulty of cashing checks and would also provide e‘
mire convenient method of establishing a d^Bck account than is now available
td out-of-state students.
The groups discussed the problem of the use of classrooms after the
regular school hours. The students, i'fe. was brought out, show a lack of re^
s^sot for property while studying in classrooms. The rooms are usually
Ipft in a "messy" condition. A large part of the problem lies in the dormit
t^ry. Students have adequate rooms for study, Whyis there a need to study
in classrooms? If students would use their dormitory rooms for studying,
tfien th^ "messy" condition of classrooms would be lessened. The committee
dl'scussed the idea \pf a clean-up campaign and will send a recommendation tp
SQA to sponsor a litterbug campaign on campus,
- Other problems which have been brought up before the Student Affairs
Ccmmittee include a petition from the Day Students to re-activate the Day
Student Organization, a petition from some freshmen boys in protest of the
"l&anging and clanging" of radiators in their dormitory, and improvement of
aoademic instruction. The co-chairmen of the committee are Mrs, Jeanne
WJlliams and Bob Gwalthey.
