Campus Crier Staff EDITOR David Johnson ASSISTANT EDITOR Dwight Davis COLUMNISTS Richard Becker, Ken Hollingsworth, Tom Ward STAFF WRITERS Ed Baker, Unidentified Writer, William H. Walker III PATRON C. V. May, Jr. Viewpoint by the Editors Welcome to the NEW Campus Crier! Well, not really new, except in format; the student articles in this issue generally follow the tone of past issues, although you will see some new names in our list of contributing writers. We are also continuing the adventures of that dubious crimefighter, The Shadow, along with the latest expose from Richard Becker, a symbolic poem, and a Playboy-type interview. Hopefully, this improved format will encourage more students to write for the Crier. Otherwise, it has no purpose. In one respect we miss the old mimeographed style, because it allowed us to display the cover art of our cartoonist, Tom Ward; the costs of professional printing, however, are too high to include artwork or pictures . . . such are the sacrifices for progress. We would like to comment on an editorial which appeared, strangely enough, in the Maroon and Gold. In this' particular article, Mr. Don King urged the college administration to refrain from putting up any more buildings with in the walls (or fragments of walls) of the campus. Although the editorial could have been more effective a few months ago, it does express the senti ments of many students who don’t want to see Elon turned into an academic shopping center. We agree with Mr. King that any plans for new buildings on campus should be immediately deposited in the nearest Circular File. It seems rather ironic that while a new library is being constructed, buildings such as Whitley Auditorium are falling apart.
