Page Eight THE VOICE April, 1960 Don't Do As I Do A baseball team had had a ter rific batting slump. The coach called a special batting practice and watched with disgust as his players bounced slow grounders and short pop flies to the infield. Grabbing a bat, he charged out of the dugout and said, “I’ll show you what I want. He ordered the pitcher to toss them in as hard as he could. But he did no better than his men. After ten futile swipes at the horsehide, he flung his bat to the ground and shouted, “See, that’s what you guys have been doing. Now get up there and slug the ball. Burned Up The Track A boy from a small town was making a fine record as a runner on his college track team. His home town pap>er carried a glow ing account of his honors in a conference meet. The boy’s father, in from the farm, met a towns man who was much interested in the event. Said the friend, “That was quite a race your boy won in the col lege meet. It said in the paper that he ’fairly burned up the track.’ I suppose you were there to see him do it?” “I went up there, all right, re plied the father, “but I got there too late to see the race. But I did see the track and there was no thing but cinders!” BASEBALL Willie Dancy DELAWARE STATE vs. FAYETTEVILLE STATE The Fayetteville State Broncos, under direction of Coaches Hubert Doub and Page Saunders, opened their 1960 Baseball Season against Delaware State at Dover, Dela ware, on April 6.
