Summer School Offers Variety
FAYETTEVILLE - For the first time, Fayetteville State University will offer over a dozen two-week
short term courses from Computer Science to Photography. . , , r. n
The announcement was made by Dr. H. M. Eldridge, Director of Summer School at Fayetteville
State University. , ^ j • j *
In addition to the new and innovative courses being offered, there will be courses designed to
meet the needs of in-service teachers and the community at large, Dr. Eldridge said.
The Director of Summer School said that the short term courses will begin June 17th and con
tinue through June 28th. The following courses offered in this time period are: Foundation of
Education, Principles of Guidance, and a Drug Seminar for Elementary and Secondary School

Beginning June 24th and continuing through July 6th, the second two-week period, the following
courses will be offered: Photography; July 1-12 (Introduction to Computer Science); Curriculum
Methods & Materials in Early Childhood Education, Afro-American Music and Creative Art Ex
pressions for Young Children, July 15-26 (Ceramics and Humanities). . , , , .
The first session of summer school ends June 21st while the second session starts June 24th and

RECORD 366
FAYETTEVILLE - Three hundred and sixty-six seniors received
degrees at* the 97th Commencement Exercises held by Fayet
teville State University, Sunday, May 12.
An overflow crowd at the Cumberland County Memorial
Auditorium heard Chapel Hill, North Carolina Mayor Howard Lee
deliver the principal address.
The degrees were awarded by Chancellor Charles “A” Lyons,
Jr. who also presided over the ceremonies.
Virginia Lee Graham, a history and political science major
from Pink Hill, North Carolina, was class valedictorian. SanUia
Betts Bickford, an early childhood education major from
Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Patricia Spinks, a mathematics
major from Siler City, North Carolina, were second highest honor
graduates. Percy Lenon Owens, a Fayetteville native and
business administration major, received honorable mention.
