JANUARY 30, 1976 THE VOICE PAGE 5 FACULTY NEWS NEWS FROM THE DIVISION OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS FSU OCTET IN PANAMA~The FSU Vocal Octet recently completed a tour of Panama City, Panama as Dr. Lemuel Berry, far right, and group pose for pictures with Dr. Charles Latimer, Director of the Division of Schools for the canal zone. Dr. Berry, director of the octet and chairman of the FSU Music Department, and the octet has just performed for graduation ceremonies at Margurita Elementary School when this photo was taken. The woman in front with Dr. Latimer is principal of the school. The octet gave eleven performances and stayed eleven days in Panama. DIVISION OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS Dr. Grace C. Black, Acting Chairman of the Division of Business and Economics, was named by the State Department of Public Instruction to serve on the evaluation team for the Teacher Education program at North Carolina Central University. This evaluation was held in Durham during the period October 2 - 3. Dr. Black and Mrs. Beulah G. Monroe, Acting Chairman of the Department of Business Education, at tended a Teacher Education Conference in Wilmington on October 9 -10. The subject of the conference was “Coor dination and Cooperation in Occupational Education.” Representatives from the State Department of Public Instruction along with teacher educators throughout the state were in attendance. Moses Walker, Assistant Professor in Business Ad ministration, represented the Division at the recent meeting of the North Carolina Business Resource Seminar in Raleigh. Also attending were two students in the Department- Misses Geraldine Smith and Patricia Bullock. Appearing as a part of the Seminar were Governor Holhouser and Mr. Stanley Scott, a top ad ministrator toPr^ident Ford. The Division of Business and Economics consists of the Department of Business Administration and Economics and the Depart ment of Business Education. The Division has as its pur pose to provide a viable, resilient education for those who will ultimately serve in responsible administrative and professional positions in the business world at large. Students are prepared for occupations in the areas of accounting, teaching, office administration, marketing, finance, insurance, ad vertising, real estate, management, computer science, banking, and school administration. Students enrolling in Business Administration may secure the Bachelor of Science degree by taking one of the two alternative curricula: Option 1: General Business with Concentration from the JOIN THE VOICE STAFF TODAY!!! following areas: Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Management, General Business, and Economics; and Option 2: General Business with traditional curricular emphasis. The Business Education curriculum prepared for certified teaching in the secondary schools as well as for teaching in the community colleges and other institutions in which business subjects are taught. Graduates of this program are eligible not only for careers in teaching but also for those in business, industry, and government service. Two programs of fered in Business Education- Comprehensive and Basic. For Basic Business, shor thand is not required; and greater emphasis is placed upon business, economics, and accounting that in Comprehensive Business. A major in Comprehensive Business Education must enroll in courses in the secretarial skills as well as courses in the basic business subjects. The Division of Business and Economics also offers two-year associate degree programs in Business Ad ministration and Secretarial Science.
