A Matter Of Integrity:
Dr. Foster Leaves University
By Sam Cole
Dr. Loleta Wood Foster,
the newly “promoted”
Associate Dean of Student
Life here at Fayetteville
State University, under the
office of the Vice Chancel
lor for Student Develop
ment has recently
announced that she will be
leaving the University.
When asked why she is
leaving, Dr. Foster replied,
“I think it might be easiest
to explain this by saying
that my reasons for leaving
are based on matters of
principles and integrity.
Dr. Foster did say however
that her reasons for leaving
have nothing to do with her
recent job reassignment.
She stated that even though
she was not part of the
planning in the reorganiza
tion, this did not play a part
in her deciding to leave.
She also stated that even
though her title was
shortened, from Associate
Dean of Student Life and
Special Programs to
Associate Dean of Student
Life, that this was not a
dropping of responsibility,
but an increase in the area
of housing.
Dr. Foster said that her
experience here at Fayette-
ville State University was a
very pleasant one because
she was allowed to work
closely with the students.
In her capacity as
Associate Dean of Stu
dents, she worked closely
with the foreign and
handicapped students.
Also, she served as the
advisor for the university
newspaper, r/je Voice. Dr.
Foster said that she really
enjoyed working with the
newspaper because it was
something she had done in
high school as well as
college.
Dr. Foster said, when
asked about her plans for
the future, that the future
is bright and filled with
opportunity. She hopes that
in her next job, she will
continue to work with
students in the area of
counseling psychology.
Dr. Foster, a native of
Lynchburg, Virginia,
received her B.A. Degree
in speech pathology from
Hampton Institute in
Hampton, VA. She also
holds a Master’s Degree in
education from Marygrove
College in Detroit and a
Ph.D. in counseling
psychology from Kent
State University in Kent,
OH.
In addition to her
responsibilities at the
university. Dr. Foster is
very active in the commun
ity. She serves on the Board
of Directors of the “Y”,
Board of Directors for the
Cape Fear Teens, Board of
Directors of the Girl Scout
Council, Evaluating Team
for Friendship Force, and
is Region 4 Co-ordinator for
the North Carolina
International Exchange
Group.
Dr. Foster said that she
would like to leave the
students with this thought;
“I always say to remember
that there is opportunity in
everything. You must take
a stand for what you believe
in and if you do this, you are
a winner.
Editor’s Note:The Voice
would like to wish Dr.
Foster the best of luck in
her future endeavors.
