Page 2 The Voice February,1986 U ni ver sity N e ws Thirty-Seven FSU Students Selected To Who’s Who Broncos Loose Two Starters The 1986 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges will include the names of 37 students from Fayetteville State Univer sity who have been selected as national outstanding leaders. Campus nominating committees and editors of the annual directory have included the names of these students based on their academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracur ricular activies and potential for continued success. They join an elite group of students selected from more than 1,400 insti tutions of higher learning in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and several foreign nations. Outstanding students have been honored in the annual directory since it was first published in 1934. The Bronco basketball! team lost two of its starting players this semester. Sam Nelson, a 6-7 forward from Grifton, NC, who is a junior and second on the team in scoring with a 15.1 average. Also lost was Edward James, a 6-9 forward from Society Hill, SC, who led FSU in scoring and rebounding, last season, and who was the third leading scoreer this season with a 13.9 average. Albert Capers, a 6-9 Freshman from New York City who averaged 9 points and 4.4 rebounds through six games and Ronald Caulder a 6-7 sophomore who played 9 games averaging 8 points and 9.5 rebounds a game have been moved into the starting line up to replace Nelson and James. Caulder who is the team leader in rebounds is tied with two other CIAA players for the most rebounds in the league. In preseason poll, FSU was predicted by CIAA coaches to win its first Southern Division Cham pionship this season. At this time FSU now stands, 1-2 in its division, 1-6 in the CIAA, and 4-8 overall. BSU Attends Retreat Puccinin Roseboro; FSU, BSU Reporter The Fayetteville State Baptist Student Union attended the first black BSU Retreat held in North Carolina. This event was held in Caraway, North Carolina. The retreat was held on January 17-18, 1986, with the theme being “Dwellin’ Together in Unity”. On Friday, January 17, registration took place from 3-8 pm. Following registration, a banquet was held. The menu consisted of steak with baked potatoes, tossed salad, pecan pie, rolls, coffee, and tea. Dr. Robert James, advisor of the BSU here at Fayetteville State, presided over this festive event. After completion of the banquet, a Christian night club was presented. A talent participation and eveing meditation was included. Each college BSU represented them selves well. Along with Fayetteville State, North Carolina Central, Winston-Salem State, and Pembroke State University’s BSUs were present. Saturday, January 18, the morning session took place with breakfast at 8 am. Following breakfast, Ms. Jennifer McGovern, advisor of NCCU BSU presided and presented the devotion for the morning. A concert of gospel singing was. presented by the NCCU BSU Choir. This session was concluded by Dr. Jon Corgitt, National Director of Nationat Baptist Student Union Retreats. He stresses that God has no respect of a person. Christians need to dwell together in unity. There should be a certain unity among all denomin ations all over the world. Together we stand; divided we fall. The afternoon session started with Winston- Salem State in charge. At this time, sharing ideas from each campus BSU was held. Winston-Salem State presented a skit entitled. The Meaning and Reflections of Christianity. Remarks were given and a group picture was taken. The retreat concluded at 3:30 with the departure of the BSU from all of the universities.
