Harris The FSU chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, inc. con tinued their outstanding tra dition of community service by sponsoring a fundraiser to benefit an area shelter for the homeless. A "Fasting For The Homeless" drive raised $250 to support this effort. Though the event was designed to help raise community aware ness of and involvement with this Important concern, a lot more was actually accom plished. Chapter President, senior sociology major Bayyinnah McGregor, ex plained that many of her “sis ters" experienced a spiritual awalening not only to the plight of the homeless but also to the importance of their leadership, through in volvement, to make a differ ence. And make a difference they did. Rev. Bill Riggs, direc tor of Winslow House, a local shelter that provides food, shelter, and clothing to Fayetteville's needy, ex plained that AKA’s $250 dona tion couldn't have come at a better time. "We have a $775 insurance bill due in March that this donation will go to wards paying, we are a non profit organization and all of our operational costs are paid for by donations, we thank cod for this blessing; we thank the AKA’s for their con cern and contribution." AKA was the first chartered female sorority at FSU with its Inception in 1952. Bayyinnah stated that she was very proud to be a member of one of the most dynamic, aggres sive, and energetic organiza tions on FSU. *we are sponsor ing "Clamour Day Photo" ses sions (Feb 21-22) at reduced prices. Our percentage of the profits will be donated to a battered womens shelter, we feel that it would be very ap propriate to donate money raised in the name of beauty to address the beast that is the plight of the battered woman." NEWS FROM THE HALLS by Iris Hunt-Smith HELP IS ON THE WAY...for the ladies of Harris and Joyner HallsI These two buildings have been experiencing a great num ber of leaks in various places. After examining the problem, it was discovered that the prob lems stemmed from the recently renovated plumbing work which is no longer under warranty. The FSU Physical Plant plumbers determined which parts are needed to repair the problems, and the parts were ordered. Physical Plant Assistant Director Ray Williams assured me that deUvery of these parts will ease all of our leaking worriesi THE ROOM ASSIGNMENT PROCESS...for Fall 1994 will run concurrently with pre-registra tion. Students who want to par ticipate must pre-register. More information about 1994 Room Assignment will be given to all residents.
