WHEELING, W. VA - Fayetteville State will
now close out its historic season with a 0-3
(25-10, 25-15, 25-10) Atlantic Region Tour
nament loss to host #1 Wheeling Jesuit (36-2
overall). The defeat ends a 10 game winning
streak which includes a complete sweep of
CIAA opponents and the Lady Broncos sec
ond berth into the NCAA playoffs. Seniors Joi
Emanuel and Infeyinwa Nwokolo finished the
night with four kills each.
“I don’t think the score truly reflects how hard
the young ladies played”, fourth year Head
Coach Reeshemah Johnson reflects. “They
played hard and hung in there. We had a
couple of mistakes that allowed Wheeling to
take advantage and pull ahead. I’m actually
extremely proud; seeing that this is our first
time here and we have a group of younger
players. I think we did well.”
JaMisha Jordan (junior - Fayetteville, NC)
finished with 10 digs. Nwokolo (Greensboro,
NC) had a total of 12 attacks and four blocks
(1 solo and 3 assisted). Emanuel (Charlotte,
NC) finished with 14 total attacks.
-ayetteville State (28-6 overall) had 16
kills off of 68 attacks.
Sixteen attack errors
were made which
went along with 14
service errors, four
blocking errors and
three ball handling
miscues.
Wheeling Jesuit finished the game with
36 kills from 82 attacks. The Cardinals com
mitted nine attack errors and two ball han
dling mistakes. Allissa Ware led the way for
WJU with 12 kills with Madison Strall giving
18 assists. Makenzie Ripley had 16 digs.
“We wanted to play quick because the block
was very big. If we weren’t passing on target
and mixing up the setting options; FSU was
blocking us”, said WJU Head Coach Christy
Benner. “We really had to be quick and use
everybody on the front line in the attack or
FSU was camped out on us.”
Fayetteville State University will hold a
celebration for the Lady Broncos Volleyball
team in early January when the spring
semester begins.

“I wouldn’t take anything
back from my senior
year. We played hard.
We were a team. I really
can’t be down about the
loss today; it was an
experience and an
honor.”
