PAGE 3 WAYNE COMMUNITY COLLEGE May 27, 1969 From the Editor: I would like to thank the students for their letters to the editor. We want students to express their views on any thing, be it good or bad. As the outgoing editor, I would like to say that I have really enjoyed working with the newspaper. However, I do wish we could have recruited interest in more students in becoming part of the I Communique staff. Jim Quillin will be the 1 incoming editor; to him, I wish the ; greatest success he can possibly have. To everyone else, I would like to say, "Thank You!" FROM THE INCOMING SGA PRESIDENT TO THE OUTGOING SGA PRESIDENT By: John Sullivan As our Spring quarter draws to an end, we find many students departing the corridors of WCC. Among these students is Guy Williams, a business major, who was President of the SGA for 1968-69 school year. Guy graduated from John A. Holmes High School in Edenton, North Carolina. One word can be used to describe Guy,energetic He is one of the few students who cannot be found in the student lounge eight hours of the day. Besides spending a great deal of time on Student Government activities, Guy has also held a part time job. During the time that our Student Union Fund Raising Drive was under full steam, Guy could be found on campus working industriously. Under Guy's leadership, the SGA has undertaken and completed many projects: student newspaper was initiated, an intramural program was begun, and students were entered in Who's Who for Community Colleges. Other activities held atiWCC were the Bleed-In, an orientation dance, the Spring Dance, and the Student Union Drive. On behalf of the entire student body, I would like to wish Guy Williams the best of luck in the future. GUEST SPEAKER ENTERTAINES WCC On Thursday, May 8, 1969, WCC was honored to have as its guest, Miss Helene Simard from Washington, D. C. Miss Simard works with the French Canadian Embasy as Third Secretary and Vice Consul. She was educated in Montreal, Canada, where she received her masters degree in geography. Upon her arrival at the Raleigh-Durham airport, she was greeted by a committee consisting of Mr. Roy R. Wade, Mr. Richard Carroll Overman, Mr John Sullivan (school photographer), and Miss Vera Jean Van Hoy. After her arrival at the school, Miss Simard was introduced to the faculty and staff. Then she was taken on a short tour of the school by Mr. Carroll Overman. Later that day, she was escorted by Lt. John Odde to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base where she was shown the various military activities. At 7:30 p.m. Miss Simard addressed the students of WCC at a seminar in room A-1. She was presented a white corsage by Dr. Draper. Films were shown to illustrate the cultural background of Quebec, Canada, and a short lecture followed. Following the seminar, she was entertained at the Officers' Club at SJAFB. On Friday, May 9, Miss Simard gave lectures at various high schools in the surrounding area. That evening she was entertained by the faculty of WCC at a party given by Mrs. Eleanor Powell. She stayed with the Powell family Friday night and left for Washington, D.C. on Saturday. The students, faculty, and staff thoroughly enjoyed the company of Miss Simard•
