The Wayne
Communique
VOL. 2 - NO. 1
WAYNE COMMUNITY COLLEGE, GOLDSBORO, N. C.
SEPTEMBER 8, 1970
But, What About
The Students
The only really valid reason
for the existence of Wayne
Community College is to serve
the educational needs and in
terest of her currently enroll
ed students and her potential
students. Ttierefore, it logi
cally follows that everything
we do or propose to do must
hold this objective foremost.
Whenever we evaluate anon-
growing program or a new pro
posal, I always ask the ques
tion, “But, what about the stu
dents? How does it affect him,
how will this particular sug
gestion or thought benefit the
students?”
Though try as I may to cast
myself in the roll of the stu
dent, I know full well that it
is not always possible for me to
think exactly like the student.
On numerous occasions, in
formally, I seek the advice and
counsel of students in making
school decisions. However, I
know that only a very small
percentage of the students is
involved in this type of ap
proach. What we need is a more
formalized system of student
opinion gathering.
This student newspaper can
serve a most useful purpose in
that it will give all of us the
forum for communication. I
hope that beginning with this
issue and in each succeeding
issue you will always feel free
to express your views and your
thoughts so that all of us can
share in the benefits of our
collective thoughts.
I hope also that every stu
dent in this school will always
feel free to come by the of
fice and give me the benefit of
your thinking. It is only though
an effective system of two way
communication that we can
build together a college which
will for all times remain a stu
dent oriented institution. —

dent.

“I feel Wayne Community Col
lege is fortunate to have such
a dedicated person. He puts
in long number of hours and is
not In the least hesitant to aid
a student or a student activ

to describe Mr. Anderson
attitude toward his work it
would be conscientious. I think
he and Dean Waller have the
students in mind at all times.”

had a varied and exciting life.
