Fall Is practice, prac tice and hard work, running, conditioning and getting In shape for those close fourth quarters in late February. Spring Is recruiting season, selling our fine school to pro spective players and hoping they will select the best. Sum mer Is coaching clinics, to help the coach keep currentonbas- ketball skills and knowledge, so he can be ready for those Important decisions so nec essary in a crucial moment. Late summer also is a time for last minute recruiting and rounding out your schedule fbr the coming winter. Coaches’ work is year-round. We strive as all, for the very best to represent our fine school for all to see. Last year ^^as a wonderrul season for our school - our record - 23 wins and only 8 losses - runner-up in the state among all community colleges as well as Eastern Division Champi'-n. Last year was fine, but another year Is the chal lenge, a challenge to make our school among the finest In the state. All players, except one will return. Clifford ^^ite - all conference, all-state; AndySo- loman - all conference, all- state; Leamcsi Bryant, James Melvin, Lennox George, Jamie King, Jerry VOkerson, Levi Hicks- Allen McCullers drop ped out and Marlon Edwards graduated.' New recruits are Billy Andrews, 6»4" forward from Durham, Ronnie Thomp son, 6’5*> forward from Plke- vllle, Pat Edgerton,6’2” guard from Plkevllle and Thurman McCuUer, 5'10" guard from Goldsboro. These freshmen are good players and come to us with high recommendations for their ability and attitude. Currently we are trying to re cruit one more player; among prospects being sought are 6' 10" A1 ca-afton, 6'7" James Saunders, from Durham and Raleigh respectively. Other prospects are: 6'6” Joe Bridges of Raeford, 6’3” David Miller from Hickory, Tom Byers, 6’2" from Kings Mountain. Our schedule is as follows: 41most complete) September 15-18—Try-outs, GHS Gym. October 15—Official practice begins, Carver gym 5:30-8:30. November 12 - scrimmage Chowan College (Open topub- 11c), GHS gym 7:00; 14— Scrimmage Pembroke College, Away; 23"Wllson, ACC gym 5:45. December 2 — PembroKe Frosh, Home 7:30; 5—Lenoir, Home 7:30; 7—Pitt, Away; 12 — Sandhills, Home; 14— Albemarle, Away. MlfllillMlllllllliitlllllllllflllltllllllllltillMIII |Counselor$f Corner OIIIIIIMII llllltlllll Job Placement Bill Frazier, counselor from the office of the Dean of Stu dents and also Job Placement Officer, requires those stu dents seeking part-time em ployment to register with him giving name, address, age, telephone number, and work ex perience so that this type of in formation is readily available when an employer calls to fill a particular job. For permanent employment students approaching gradua tion are asked to fill out a re sume form listing references, work experience, location de sired, and other pertinent in formation. The Placement Of fice then arranges interviews, whenever possible, between prospective employer and stu dents. One completed resume Is given to each graduating stu dent prior to graduation. At some later date, ap proximately six months, the graduate will receive a follow- up study sheet, which, when completed, will furnish this office with facts concern ing the problems and success es encountered In adjusting to work experiences. This Infor mation may be used to improve the school’s present and future programs. Counselors What are you really like? Are you sure of where you are going? Are you headed In the right direction? Certain jobs require cer tain types of temperaments and personalities. Does your per sonality fit the occupation you are planning to enter? In our Guidance Department, we have job Interest, personality and temperament tests and inven tories. We will be happy to have you come In and take any of these tests to help you decide whether or not you are suited for your curriculum. Intramural News The Physical Education de partment would like to say hel lo and welcome to all the new students coming to WCC this year. Also, we would like to extend an invitation to the new and returning students to par ticipate in Intramurals. TTils fall we will start with a clinic for those interested in learn ing the rules and how to play the game of Carolina football. This will be announced in the daily bulletin.
