The Wayne Communique VOL. 2 - NO. 3 WAYNE COMMUNITY COLLEGE, GOLDSBORO, N. C. NOVEMBER 25, 1970 SGA Approves $15,200 Budget Each committee seeking funds from Student Government resources was asked to submit a proposed budget for the 1970-1971 year. The Budget Committee reviewed each request with representatives from each committee on October 21, 1970. On the following evening, October 22, 1970, the Budget Committee reviewed each individual budget and submitted the proposed budget as outlined within this report. The proposed budget recommends appropriations of $15,200.00 for the 1970-71 SGA budget. The Budget Committee realizes that these recommendations exceed the funds presently held by the SGA. However, the committee feels that student activity fees to be collected during the winter, spring and summer quarters will bring in a more- than-ample sum to meet proposed appropriations. In the event such revenue is not collected, the SGA reserves the right to cut appropriations to the necessary level for remaining within funds available. A summary of the budget committee’s recommendations is as follows; Athletic Ccmmittee-- $3;800.00. Cheerleaders-$200.00. Homecoming-$l,400.00. Communications Committee- $50.00. Intramurals-$250.00. Newspaper-$1,00.00. Phi Theta Kappa-$400.00. Student Activities-$3,300.00. Student Government Association (Administrative Expenses) -$650.00. Student Movie Series-$500.00. Building and Grounds Committee-$150.00. Yearbook-$3,500.00. Total-$15,200.00. Athletic Committee To the Athletic Committee the Budget Committee recommends a sum total of $3,800.00 to basketball which includes $200.00 each to the golf and tennis teams. The Bu(^et Committee realizes the importance of intercollegiate sports and its impact throughout the community. In support of a beneficial athletic program, the Budget Committee feels this amount is justified. We recommend that any funds allotted and not used be turned in to the SGA general fund. In addition, any gate receipts will be returned. Cheerleaders Realizing the expense of the cheerleaders for their uniforms, the Budget Committee recommends that $200.00 be appropriated to supplement cheerleading activities. This sum will include the purchase of pompoms which the cheerleaders will keep at the end of the year. To create more school spirit and to help initiate a pep club, the remaining funds will be us^ for the purchase of sundry items to be sold by the cheerleaders. All revenue from these sales will be deposited in the SGA General Fund for use by the cheerleaders for travel expenses to and from out-of- town games. ONE A UAY The breath of life is a miracle which no human has ever been able to create. While he has devised scientific helpers, he still cannot create life. Man should be thankful that God is a miracle worker. He not only knows just what a person thinks, but is always willing to offer help. The world needs help. We all agree, but why can’t we realize Uiat help is only a prayer away? Is it too much to wish that all the billions of people say just one prayer a day on Thanksgiving Day ar ' everyday?
